Senior Payroll Specialist - Hybrid - 5 Months Temp - Berkeley - $45/hour
Immediate need for an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist for a new contract opportunity at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you'll manage complex payroll transactions in compliance with policies, regulations, and laws, including reporting to internal and external stakeholders like the Department of Energy. Your role involves overseeing payroll operations, analyzing data, and developing solutions to intricate payroll issues. Additionally, you'll contribute to policy development, process improvement, and participate in various projects within the Controller’s Office.

- Duration: Through 9/30/25 or longer, with the possibility of being hired on
- Location: Hybrid (Primarily remote with occasional onsite as needed. Must be California resident for payroll purposes)

As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will:
- Oversee, execute, and monitor payroll transactions, processes, and systems.
- Analyze payroll data and conduct reconciliations for general ledger accounts.
- Prepare various payroll reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Research, analyze, and correct irregularities in payroll outputs and reconciliations.
- Perform monthly and year-end close activities.
- Utilize PeopleSoft FMS to obtain and analyze financial information.
- Develop solutions to complex payroll issues and provide technical input on financial objectives.
- Assist in specific duties such as maintaining foreign national employee records and reconciling payroll accruals.
As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- In-depth knowledge of and experience in performing payroll functions including: payroll laws and requirements, pay cycle, payroll taxes including non-nonresident alien taxation, benefits accounting, garnishments and withholdings, payroll accounting, and payroll best practices.
- Experience with financial spreadsheets, databases, and commercial financial tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
