POSITION SUMMARY

Join Our Elite Equine Sports Medicine Team in Sunny Ocala, Florida!

We are offering a unique Equine Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation and Business Mentorship 2-year fellowship. During this time, the fellow will rotate between ambulatory equine medicine, in-house rehabilitation, and Business rotation. During the business rotation, the fellow will be closely mentored by our Director of Administration and Executive Director to acquire vast exposure to the main pillars of a veterinary business: Marketing, Operational effectiveness, Human Resources, Professional Development, and Financial accuracy.

The Sports Medicine fellow is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating high-performing equine athletes on a daily basis. Successful veterinarians in this position are enhancing equine patients' performance abilities to reach their peak potential and creating rehabilitation plans to set up our athletes for success.

At the end of the fellowship, the veterinarian will have acquired enough knowledge to excel as a business person as well as an Equine Sports medicine.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

We work with horse athletes of all disciplines, to service their sports medicine and rehabilitation needs of our patients. We are located on a beautiful 23 acre facility in Ocala, Florida with a full Sports Medicine, surgery and rehabilitation facility. OBJECTIVES

  • Develop and implement comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans for all musculoskeletal-related injuries in equine patients.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to all client inquiries, questions, and concerns regarding their equine patients
  • Conduct follow-up calls on equine patients to ensure optimal recovery and client satisfaction.
  • Provide general medical care to equine patients at the practice or refer them to another veterinarian within the practice when necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills by regularly participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations and regulations.
  • Rotate between ambulatory equine medicine, in-house rehabilitation, and business operations
  • Actively engage in training to gain exposure to the main pillars of a veterinary business, including marketing, operational effectiveness, human resources, professional development/Leadership, and financial accuracy
  • Participate in various professional development opportunities within Performance Equine and outside of the organization
  • Serve as a mentor to interns and students to foster professional growth and development.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Represent the company at various equine events such as horse shows, horse races, and charity events.
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings with other veterinary professionals, including veterinarians, farriers, trainers, and horse owners
  • Conduct research and publish scientific papers on equine sports medicine and related topics

COMPETENCIES

  • Must possess a deep understanding of equine sports medicine and rehabilitation techniques, including diagnosing, treating, and managing the health of high-performing equine athletes.
  • Proficiency in performing and interpreting imaging, such as Radiographs and Ultrasound
  • Basic understanding of business concepts, including marketing, operational effectiveness, human resources, professional development, and financial accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills that display emotional intelligence, empathy, collaborative problem-solving, and intentionality
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
  • Must be able to analyze and diagnose complex problems and develop effective treatment plans for equine athletes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with other veterinary professionals, including veterinarians, farriers, and trainers, to provide comprehensive care for equine athletes.
  • Be willing to learn and engage in continuing education to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in equine sports medicine and business operations.
  • Upholds high ethical standards and demonstrates a professional demeanor in all interactions with clients and colleagues.
  • Displays the potential to demonstrate leadership qualities and contribute to the growth and development of the equine sports medicine and business team.
  • Possesses basic research skills, including the ability to design and conduct scientific studies and publish scientific papers on equine sports medicine and related topics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • DVM, VMD or compatible degree validated in the United States
  • Minimum, completion of the 1-year equine internship
  • Board certification or eligibility in the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR) or other relevant specialty board certification (recommended)
  • ISELP test eligibility or completion (recommended)
  • Demonstrated expertise in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs
  • Able to stand on feet for long periods of time (3 hrs or more)
  • Should be able to work 40 hours a week and occasionally more
