Position General Summary:
Materials Clerk manages the medical and office supplies for the hospital and receives all supplies into the building and disperses to the proper department. This position is a Non-essential position at the facility to ensure efficient operations and patient care. Employees hired into a Non-essential positions are not expected to report to work for their scheduled shifts in the event of the environmental weather or dangerous road conditions that may exist.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Materials Clerk
- Interfaces with department directors to assist with planning/forecasting the department’s needs
- Maintains optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet department requirements
- Ensures the consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary for patient care
- Oversees the supply & delivery of materials
- Unboxes deliveries/stocks departments with supplies
- Receives Individual items in Purchase orders and stock.
- Checks in supplies in a timely manner
- Has a cost-conscious attitude to time usage, materials and supplies
- Performs duties with little or no supervision
Facility General Responsibilities:
- Attend facility new hire orientation as scheduled by HR
- Complete Department Orientation Initial Competency within 7 days of hire date
- Complete Department Initial Skills Competency within 90 days of hire date
- Follow facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures
- Respect cultural and religious practices of patients from all backgrounds
- Follow HIPAA regulations at all times
- Be punctual and dependent for assigned shifts
- Dress within the dress code requirements of the facility
- Follows Hospital Wide and Department Specific policies and procedures
- Must interact with physicians, guest, staff, and patients pleasantly, cooperatively, and effectively
- Must pass drug screens, both pre-employment and throughout duration of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of healthcare processes and supply chain management
- Good communications skills – both verbal and written
- Solid critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to perform under stress and cope with difficult situations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and material management systems
- Solid computer skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Performs duties with little or no supervision
Position Requirements: Education, Work Experience, Licensure, Certifications:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- One year experience in a hospital or medically related environment is preferred
Working Conditions:
Will spend a considerable amount of time walking, bending, stretching, standing, and lifting materials; therefore, proper body mechanics to guard against injury must be followed. Must be able to work accurately around frequent interruptions. Must be knowledgeable of department equipment, supplies and instrumentation. Must not require supervision and is able to work on their own and make decisions in a timely manner.
Physical Requirements / Demands:
- Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting, or transferring of supplies may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds at times
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to bend, lean, and stoop without hindrance; requires a full range of body motion
- Fine motor skills
- Visual acuity; normal range of hearing
- Hearing: Must be able to hear clearly with hearing assistance device if necessary
