Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to assist in the management of Person County's financial activities, including all daily accounting functions, monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal and grant reporting, compliance and internal controls, debt management, budget analysis, and financial planning. Participates in projects that impact the annual Adopted Budget and Audit Reports, including working with departmental requests and preparing budget and audit documentation to be reviewed by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and County Manager. In the absence of the CFO, the Assistant CFO will be responsible for stepping into meetings and representing the CFO as needed.
This job works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive-level administrators through conferences and reports.

This is an exempt position working 37.5 hours weekly / 1950 hours annually.
The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.
Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.
Essential Functions
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Coordinates the annual budget and audit processes including oversight of budget development, tracking, and financial reporting.
- Assists with the preparation and compilation of the county's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and ensures compliance with new governmental accounting and reporting standards.
- Monitors departmental budgets to ensure compliance and analyzes department budget transfer requests and prepares budget amendments for commissioner meetings.
- Identifies and resolves first-level problems for accounting software users, including answering questions, providing advice, and troubleshooting.
- Reviews accounting and treasury policies and procedures to ensure that adequate internal controls are developed and maintained.
- Prepares and processes certain monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries.
- Assists in training county department staff on financial matters and provides support for special projects.
- Serves as a technical expert in interpreting and implementing new governmental accounting and reporting standards.
- Leads or participates in a variety of special projects.
- In the absence of the CFO, the Assistant CFO will step into meetings and represent the department in financial discussions and decision-making processes.
- Performs related work as assigned.
