Job Summary (Grant Funded)
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in providing support and guidance to individuals with behavioral health challenges, including those with disabilities and autism. The Behavioral Specialist will work closely with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop effective strategies that promote positive behavioral changes and enhance overall well-being.
Duties
- Conduct assessments to identify behavioral issues and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Implement evidence-based interventions, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques.
- Collaborate with families, educators, and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to care.
- Provide crisis management support as needed, ensuring the safety of clients and staff.
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
- Educate clients and families about behavioral health concepts, medical terminology, and available resources.
- Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans based on client needs and responses to interventions.
- Advocate for clients' needs within various settings, including schools and community organizations.
- Works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and support staff to demonstrate best practices and strategies, and integrates techniques to enhance instruction for students with social, behavioral and emotional challenges.
- Provides individual and group sessions to students according to the behavior plan/behavior intervention plan as needed, which may include peer mediation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Student Mental Health and Behavior Support Coordinator, Director of Special Education, Superintendent or designee.
Experience
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly those on the autism spectrum.
- Background in behavioral health or special education is preferred.
- Knowledge of addiction counseling principles is a plus.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to behavioral health practices.
- Strong crisis management skills to effectively handle challenging situations.
- Experience working with children is highly desirable.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and compliance in all interactions.
- Must have knowledge of the practices related to school wide behavioral support, including functional behavioral analysis, and the ability to use a variety of observational and interviewing skills.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Sciences, or Applied Behavioral Analysis. Masters preferred but not required.
- Minimum of three years of successful experience working with students who have challenging behaviors in a therapeutic or school setting.
