 POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

POSITION TITLE:    Secondary Behavior Interventionist

 

FLSA:                       Exempt Professional

  

REPORTS TO:  Central Office                   

 

OVERVIEW:  The Mental Health Professional will provide primary intervention to students who are identified as exhibiting behavioral difficulties which impede their social development and academic success.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Degree in Counseling and/or Social Work preferred.
  2. Minimum three years experience working with children identified with behavioral issues, with two of the three years school based.
  3. Ability to work with high-risk children.
  4. Effective interpersonal skills.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Ability to train staff and parents on behavioral interventions.
  7. Knowledge of counseling and intervention strategies.
  8. Proficient computer/technology skills.
  9. Knowledge of the developmental stages of children.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide positive behavioral interventions, supports, and strategies to address behaviors.
  2. Apply behavioral play therapy techniques.
  3. Provide individual and group counseling skills.
  4. Serve as a behavioral model for children and adolescents.
  5. Engage families with services.
  6. Apply effective problem resolution.
  7. Work collaboratively with school, families and Central Office personnel to provide "best practices" to students.
  8. Maintain documentation and reports efficiently.
  9. Communicate with building administration and teachers.
