Peterson Power Systems has a need for a Sr. Project Management Manager to be based remotely in the state of Virginia.
SUMMARY
The Sr. Project Manager is responsible for managing and coaching a team of Project Managers and Engineers in the selling process and after sales support. Responsible for ensuring on time and on budget delivery of high-quality Power Generation, Marine and Industrial Solutions with a focus on Customer Satisfaction and Profitability. Coordinates and cooperates with other department and branches across the Company. Interfaces with customers, vendors, and Caterpillar Representatives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Train and Coach the Project Managers (“PM”) and Project Engineers (“PE”) to:
- Put the customer first by using clear, specific, accurate and timely communications regarding their project.
- Put the customer first by responding quickly and appropriately to customer needs and problems.
- Take ownership of all projects by resolving problems and disputes quickly and fairly.
- Ensure on time delivery within budget on all projects while meeting or exceeding the expectations of our customers.
- Work with all project stake holders (i.e. Customer, Design Engineer, Caterpillar, Vendors, Peterson Service department, Contracts Group, Accounts Receivable, Accounting etc.) to ensure on time and on budget project delivery.
- Work cooperatively with the Sales Representatives.
- Follow procedures in usage of iMacs, and all internal accounting, legal, credit, shipping, vendor, policies.
- Ensure all PM and PE become subject matter experts (SME) in one or more areas such as OSHPD, NFPA, Emissions etc.
- Assist sales representatives in their areas of expertise.
- Work collaboratively with the sales representatives, customers and other departments with Peterson.
Process Improvement
- Work to streamline and improve the efficiency of all Project Management and Project Engineering procedures and processes.
- Work with other departments within Peterson to improve all processes and procedures.
- Develop training modules for Project Managers and Engineers.
- Develop an annual scorecard for all major vendors, (i.e. Packagers, Switchgear, ATSs, Emissions Control, Logistics).
- Work with Sales Manager and Sales Reps. to standardize non-CAT vendor offerings by prequalifying and partnering with non-CAT vendors. Develop an annual scorecard for non-CAT vendor evaluation.
- Hire an independent quality inspector near each of our packaging partners.
- Work cooperatively with your counterpart Project Management Manager in Oregon or California to assure alignment on all Engineer and Project Management Processes and Procedures.
Financial
Work in collaboration with the Engineering Sales Manager, General Manager, Account Manager and applicable staff to manage:
- Pipeline of Engines and subcomponents to assure on time delivery while balancing the cash flow goals and ROI
- Assure that risks are mitigated and/or widely known and managed for by your staff. Examples of risk factors;
- Pipelined orders without a firm PO. How large is our exposure.
- Continuously managing the pipeline to assure deliveries are met and ROI Metrics are met.
- Alignment of cancellation terms of our customers with our suppliers.
- Liquidated damages risk mitigation by flowing down the risk to suppliers and assuring the staff is managing for LD’s.
- Alignment cancellation clauses with our suppliers.
- Request and process change orders where applicable.
- Minimize payment of deposits to vendors.
- Maximizing collection of deposits from customers.
- Track Variable pricing from our suppliers and to our customers to assure Peterson achieves our GP.
- Managing rebate programs.
- Track and manage Cat pricing, list and discount price.
- Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time.
- Operate company or personal vehicle as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited college in Business or other closely related field; and a minimum of five years of directly related experience in project management in the construction industry; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
PMP Certification preferred. Valid driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
