Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced Manufacturing Controller to join our growing team at Nor-Cal Products, Inc. dba Pfeiffer Vacuum Valves & Engineering. As a Manufacturing Controller, you will play a key role in managing and overseeing the financial activities of our manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for providing financial insight, analysis, and control to ensure that the production of our high-quality vacuum pumps remains cost-effective, efficient, and compliant with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements related to manufacturing activities, including cost of goods sold (COGS), manufacturing overhead, inventory, and production costs.
Cost Analysis & Control:
- Analyze production costs, identify areas for cost reduction, and recommend strategies to improve profitability. Provide cost variance analysis, highlighting key drivers and areas for improvement.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the development and management of the manufacturing budget, including labor, materials, overhead, and capital expenditures. Monitor actual performance versus budget and forecast and provide actionable insights.
Inventory Management:
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation and efficient inventory management. Coordinate with supply chain and production teams to maintain optimal stock levels and minimize carrying costs.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Develop and maintain financial controls related to manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant financial regulations. Prepare for internal and external audits, including coordinating the review of manufacturing financial records.
Production Efficiency:
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, waste, labor efficiency, and capacity utilization. Provide financial insights to drive operational improvements.
ERP and Systems Management:
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of manufacturing-specific financial systems, ensuring the integration of cost data with production systems. Work with IT to streamline processes and improve system efficiencies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the operations, production, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment of financial and operational goals. Provide financial expertise and advice to drive decision-making and operational improvements.
Reporting to Senior Management:
- Provide monthly and ad-hoc financial reports to senior leadership, offering detailed analysis of manufacturing performance, trends, and opportunities for cost-saving initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
Experience:
- 10 years of experience in a manufacturing finance role, preferably in the production of complex products like vacuum pumps or other industrial equipment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, job order costing, and inventory management.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a deep understanding of cost analysis and financial reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar manufacturing ERP software).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience in financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a vacuum pump or related manufacturing environment is preferable.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and implementing process improvements.
- Advanced knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain operations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an office environment as well as occasional visits to the manufacturing floor for inventory and production monitoring.
- Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods, use a computer, and attend meetings.
