Job Summary
Takes explicit direction from departmental supervision and carries out duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and routines. Performs a variety of manual duties that requires physical strength and endurance. Interacts most frequently with other department personnel; may interact with other City departments and external public occasionally. Performs manual tasks requiring skill in the use of small and large motorized equipment.
Essential Job Functions And Other Important Duties
Formal Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Relatable Work Experience: None required.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Ability to obtain a Class A or B commercial driver's license (CDL) within 6 months of hire date (depending on Assignment).
Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed & Environmental Factors and Other Physical Requirements
Ability to understand verbal and written work instructions.
Ability to safely operate and maintain vehicles, equipment, and tools and to understand all related operating instructions.
Will be required to work in settings with extreme cold or extreme heat, depending on time of year.
Strenuous and continuous physical activity, including stooping, kneeling, bending, and digging.
Lifting - up to 85 lbs.
Operation of specified vehicles, equipment, and hand tools.
Regularly scheduled for 5-day, 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm; some overtime may be required.
Exposure to potentially hazardous materials.

- Operate and maintain both heavy and light machinery in a safe and effective manner. Equipment may include but is not limited to: vehicles, chippers, loaders, backhoes, hot mix paver, roller, crack sealer, concrete saw, and screens.
- Maintain City tools and equipment in safe and effective operating condition; make minor repairs and adjustments as necessary; report unsafe or inoperable equipment to department management.
- Maintain City vehicles; clean inside and outside; perform maintenance checks before and after use; ensure proper storage of vehicles and vehicle keys.
- May be assigned temporarily to other departments to provide related support.
- May be requested to respond after hours
- Other duties as assigned.
