Position OverviewThe Project Accountant/Controller will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of our construction projects and overseeing corporate accounting functions. This role requires expertise in Sage 300 (Timberline) accounting software, a strong understanding of construction job costing, and experience with general ledger accounting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in both project-based accounting and corporate financial reporting.
Key ResponsibilitiesConstruction Accounting & Project Financials:
- Manage job cost tracking, project budgets, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
- Process progress billings (AIA billing), accounts payable, and subcontractor payments, ensuring compliance with contracts and lien releases.
- Work closely with project managers and estimators to analyze project costs, financial performance, and profitability.
- Handle subcontractor compliance, including lien waivers, insurance certificates, and W-9s.
- Ensure accurate job cost allocations and expense coding.
General Ledger & Corporate Accounting:
- Oversee general ledger reconciliation, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
- Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and prepaids.
- Assist with budget preparation, financial forecasting, and tax reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
Payroll & Compliance:
- Process payroll-related entries, certified payroll reporting, and union fringe benefits (if applicable).
- Work with external auditors, tax professionals, and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations.
- 2-3 years of construction accounting experience is required.
- Proficiency in Sage 300 (Timberline) is required.
- Strong knowledge of job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Familiarity with AIA billing, retention tracking, and subcontractor compliance.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
