As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Project Accountant/Controller with a strong background in construction accounting and corporate financial management to join our team.
Position Overview
The Project Accountant/Controller will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of our construction projects and overseeing corporate accounting functions. This role requires expertise in Sage 100 accounting software, a strong understanding of construction job costing, and experience with general ledger accounting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in both project-based accounting and corporate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Accounting & Project Financials:
• Manage job cost tracking, project budgets, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
• Process progress billings (AIA billing), accounts payable, and subcontractor payments, ensuring compliance with contracts and lien releases.
• Work closely with project managers and estimators to analyze project costs, financial performance, and profitability.
• Handle subcontractor compliance, including lien waivers, insurance certificates, and W-9s.
• Ensure accurate job cost allocations and expense coding.
General Ledger & Corporate Accounting:
• Oversee general ledger reconciliation, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
• Maintain and reconcile fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and prepaids.
• Assist with budget preparation, financial forecasting, and tax reporting.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
Payroll & Compliance:
• Process payroll-related entries, certified payroll reporting, and union fringe benefits (if applicable).
• Work with external auditors, tax professionals, and regulatory agencies as needed.
• Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations.

Qualifications & Skills
• 2-3 years of construction accounting experience is required.
• Proficiency in Sage 100 is required.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Familiarity with AIA billing, retention tracking, and subcontractor compliance.
• Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with project managers and leadership.
