How You Will Contribute

Working for the Controller, the Senior Accountant performs accounting functions as outlined below as part of a Financial Accounting and Reporting team to produce complete, accurate, and timely financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and process payroll.

Specifically, you will:

  • Handle daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly journal entries
  • Monitor and track grants and restricted funding
  • Serve as support and backup for payroll processing
  • Handle bank and account reconciliations, including pledges receivable
  • Research and analyze accounts as needed
  • Provide support for the Audited Financial Statements and the annual 990 and other tax filings, including preparing supporting documents
  • Work with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury as needed
  • Perform integration functions between systems
  • Work with various departments to provide support, prepare reports or analysis as needed
  • Maintain accounting and reporting for retail, special events, publications, and special exhibitions
  • Handle Debt Compliance Reporting
  • Complete special projects involving financial analysis and interpretation as assigned by the Controller and the CFO
  • Work may be reassigned as needs arise
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Your background and experience include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Ability to pass in-house basic accounting and reconciliation quiz
  • Prior relevant experience as an accountant, preferably in nonprofit accounting
  • Payroll experience a plus
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple and varied tasks independently while also working collaboratively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Skill in dealing with people, using tact and diplomacy, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentially
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Financial Edge preferred

Position And Compensation Details

  • The salary for this position is $85,000
  • This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and 35 hours per week
  • This position reports to the Controller
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
    • Able to regularly set up, adjust, and operate a computer/keyboard and other office equipment used to generate work/transmit data
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job
