Organizational Overview
Philadelphia Youth Basketball, Inc. (PYB) was officially launched in June, 2015, with a mission to create transformative opportunities for thousands of young people, especially those from under-resourced families and communities, to reach their full potential as students, athletes, and positive leaders. A diverse and impassioned group of individuals, including leaders from the grass-roots to the tree-tops, have been working diligently to execute upon this mission by building an impactful program, a robust and sustainable organization, and ultimately a state-of-the-art youth basketball and education center to enable us to provide empowering experiences to many more children, youth, and families.
Summary - We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern to join our team at Philadelphia Youth Basketball. This internship provides hands-on experience in career readiness programming, youth engagement, and work-based learning initiatives. The intern will work closely with staff to support career readiness workshops, track participant progress, and assist with professional development opportunities for youth participants.
Key Responsibilities
Career Readiness Certification
- Support Career Readiness Manager in the creation and execution of career readiness workshops
- Track career readiness certification completion
- Collaborate with Marketing Department on youth outreach initiatives around career readiness certification and enrollment
- Maintain Older Years blog with Philadelphia work and career development opportunities
Work-Based Learning (WBL)
- Coordinate with students and families to complete all necessary paperwork and new hire forms to participate in the program
- Execute bi-weekly and monthly check-ins with students and partners
- Track student attendance and support in payroll
- Create and execute professional development opportunities (workshops) for WBL youth
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- Currently pursuing or completing a bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Passion for youth development, career readiness, and social impact through sports.
- Ability to engage with youth, mentors, families, and employers to support career readiness and work-based learning initiatives.
- Experience or strong interest in tracking program participation, managing certification progress, and coordinating youth workshops.
- Strong attention to detail in tracking student attendance, supporting payroll processes, and managing paperwork for program participants.
- Experience or interest in collaborating with marketing teams for youth outreach initiatives and maintaining the Older Years blog with career development opportunities.
- Comfort with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, Email), Canva, and RecDesk for documentation, communication, and outreach.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, including executing check-ins with students and partners and assisting with professional development workshops.
- Enthusiasm for program development, marketing, and operations to enhance PYB’s impact.
Compensation
This opportunity will include wages of $16/hour for up to 30 hours/week for 10 weeks.

This is a hybrid position. The intern can work remotely, but is expected to work in-person at the Alan Horwitz “Sixth Man” Center (4250 Wissahickon Avenue, Philadelphia) at least three days per week.
