Job Description
I. Organizational Overview
Philadelphia Youth Basketball, Inc. (PYB) was officially launched in June, 2015, with a mission to create transformative opportunities for thousands of young people, especially those from under-resourced families and communities, to reach their full potential as students, athletes, and positive leaders. A diverse and impassioned group of individuals, including leaders from the grass-roots to the tree-tops, have been working diligently to execute upon this mission by building an impactful program, a robust and sustainable organization, and ultimately a state-of-the-art youth basketball and education center to enable us to provide empowering experiences to many more children, youth, and families.

II. Primary Scope of Duties
Reporting to the Safety and Security Manager, the Flex Culture Keeper will be at the forefront of driving positive change, prioritizing the welfare of our young people, empowering individuals, sharing knowledge, and setting an example for others to follow. Culture Keepers will maintain a supportive, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere where PYB community members can thrive holistically. Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Core Responsibilities
- Provide support and care to community members as they navigate personal and educational challenges.
- Foster a respectful, welcoming, inclusive, and safe community environment through equitable policies and processes.
- Actively participate in professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Cultivate positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and staff to create a productive and safe learning environment.
- Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with diverse populations.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrate ability to mediate and facilitate challenging interactions with youth and staff.
- Demonstrate understanding of youth development and community empowerment.
Operational Duties
- Heavily involve oneself in earned revenue events.
- Work rotating shifts, including weekends and potential holidays.
- Monitor restrooms, classrooms, public, and restricted areas to prevent unauthorized access, theft, or vandalism.
- Conduct building and exterior grounds patrols and utilize video surveillance.
- Manage incidents according to established protocols.
- Provide safety escorts to the parking lot and Wissahickon Avenue.
- Supervise and encourage positive community behaviors.
- Report safety concerns to the Safety and Security Manager.
- Handle VIPs with confidentiality and discretion.
- Provide exceptional hospitality aligned with PYB’s cultural values.
- Ability to operate an Open- Gate Weapons Detection System.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Safety and Security Manager.
III. Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in high-paced settings, preferably in educational or hospitality sectors.
- Act 235 (L) Certification is required.
- Must be knowledgeable of Standard Safety Protocols
- Strong background in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Exceptional communication abilities, encompassing both written and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized with a keen attention to detail.
- Knowledge of youth development and community empowerment.
- Proven experience in handling VIP interactions with confidentiality and discretion.
- Deep passion for fostering a positive, safe, and empowering environment for youth, staff, and the broader PYB community.
- Strong commitment to the safety and security of children, demonstrating genuine care.
- Effective teamwork skills with the ability to work well in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Sharp judgment skills with problem-solving capabilities and decision-making based on supervisor guidance.
- Reliable communication means, such as an active cell phone capable of app downloads and mobile email access.
- Punctuality and readiness to work at the start of each shift.
- Must be willing to work weekends.
- Preferably experienced in working with children/family environments.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to acquire a full set of background checks and clearances, if not already possessed.
IV. Compensation and Perks
This position will include wages of $23-$25 per hour commensurate with experience.
