The Compliance Officer (Oral Products) is responsible for developing, leading, and overseeing the implementation of the U.S. compliance program in the Oral Products segment of the U.S market.
Responsibilities
The Compliance Officer (Oral Products), together with the entire U.S. Compliance team, is also responsible for driving the mission of Global PMI Compliance to:
Drive and deliver compliance initiatives in all five pillars of the Global PMI Compliance Program (enumerated below), with a focus on Code of Conduct and Ethics, Conflicts of Interest, Speaking Up, Whistleblowing, and Investigations, as well as legal compliance topics such as Anti-Corruption and Competition law.
PMI is headquartered in Stamford, Conn., and its U.S. affiliates have more than 2,300 employees.
PMI has been an entirely separate company from Altria and Philip Morris USA since 2008. PMI’s affiliates first entered the U.S. market following the company’s acquisition of Swedish Match in late 2022.
Philip Morris International and its U.S. affiliates are working to deliver a smoke-free future. Since 2008, PMI has invested $12.5 billion globally to develop, scientifically substantiate and commercialize innovative smoke-free products for adults who would otherwise continue to smoke with the goal of transitioning legal-age consumers who smoke to better alternatives. In 2022, PMI acquired Swedish Match – a leader in oral nicotine delivery – creating a global smoke-free champion led by the IQOS and ZYN brands. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized versions of PMI’s IQOS electronically heated tobacco devices and Swedish Match’s General snus as Modified Risk Tobacco Products and renewal applications for these products are presently pending before the FDA. The Compliance Officer (Oral Products), together with the entire U.S. Compliance team, is also responsible for driving the mission of Global PMI Compliance to:
- Empower and enable . . . management, employees, and close third parties . . . to meet applicable external (legal, regulatory, and industry) and internal (policy) requirements . . . by providing them with the tools, knowledge and advice . . . to do their jobs in an ethical and compliant way
- Assess risk, monitor ongoing compliance, test compliance controls, and investigate allegations of potential non-compliance
- Drive a culture of compliance that encourages raising concerns about potential or actual compliance violations and proactive addressing of issues.
Drive and deliver compliance initiatives in all five pillars of the Global PMI Compliance Program (enumerated below), with a focus on Code of Conduct and Ethics, Conflicts of Interest, Speaking Up, Whistleblowing, and Investigations, as well as legal compliance topics such as Anti-Corruption and Competition law.
- Program Governance & Risk Assessment
- Identify, assess, and manage compliance risks in the U.S.
- Establish compliance champion networks in Sales and Manufacturing
- Stay current with ethics and compliance developments, best practices, and benchmarks.
- Policy & Processes
- Develop a working familiarity with company policies
- Develop and implement local compliance procedures and processes
- Oversee and execute compliance processes.
- Training & Communications
- Raise the profile and awareness of compliance and the U.S. Compliance Program in the Oral Products segment
- Provide face-to-face risk-based training to various audiences
- Integrate compliance messaging and training into ordinary course business messaging and training
- Oversee and support e-learning process.
- Monitoring & Investigations
- Oversee or conduct internal investigations
- Enhance and maintain a culture of speaking-up
- Monitor the effectiveness of the U.S. Compliance Program.
- Advisory
- Support employees seeking compliance advice
- Participate in Oral Products management and functional team meetings
- Provide compliance input and advice on strategic business matters
- Identify and analyze compliance issues and present recommendations.
- At least 7 years of experience in a compliance role
- University degree in law, business, or other relevant field
- In-depth knowledge and applied understanding of compliance programs and related subject matters
- Experience working in a regulated industry with many touchpoints with government authorities
- Experience handling and solving complex issues and problems
- Experience managing and influencing change and overcoming adversity
- Demonstrated professional integrity and ability to stand alone.
- Proven ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgment.
- Proven ability to lead, manage, build relationships, collaborate, and communicate effectively
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational, writing, and presentation skills.
- Public company in-house experience preferred
- Experience in organizations with field sales and U.S.-based manufacturing operations preferred
