What are the responsibilities and job description for the Investment Analyst - NYC-based Investment Office position at Phillips Academy?
Phillips Academy is a residential secondary school in Massachusetts, founded in 1778 to educate “youth from every quarter.” The school’s $1.3 billion multi-asset class endowment provides significant operating support to the Academy, much of which supports the school’s policy of need-blind admissions. The NYC-based Investment office, which manages the Academy’s endowment, seeks an Investment Analyst for up to a 2 to 3 year position.
Day-to-day responsibilities are focused on quantitative and qualitative analysis and evaluation of investment managers, and reporting on the overall portfolio. A key member of the small investment team, the Investment Analyst will assist the Chief Investment Officer, and other team members in research and analysis. This includes:
- Preparing analysis on the performance and exposures of both individual managers’ portfolios and the endowment portfolio overall;
- Acting as point person on a set of specific investments, developing responsibility over time for the coverage of, communications and meetings with such managers, and keeping the CIO and team abreast of notable developments, periodically more in-depth reviews and assessments
- Supporting team in sourcing, screening and analyzing prospective investment managers,
- Ultimately drafting investment and redemption recommendation memos for the investment committee; presenting performance reviews and investment recommendations to the IC
- Providing regular operational support for the portfolio
Qualifications
- One to four years of finance or business experience, within investment management, investment banking, consulting or another relevant field.
- High degree of comfort with quantitative analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power point; interest to master other relevant software.
- Strong work ethic, organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to set goals, prioritize tasks, and manage simultaneous projects.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Interest in driving analysis to a well-reasoned/supported conclusion/recommendation.
- Self-motivation and strong problem-solving skills; entrepreneurial approach to challenges.
- High level of professional maturity, integrity, and judgement. Dependability and a sense of personal ownership of responsibilities. Track record of collaboration, working on a small team.
- Strong Academic credentials, Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, economics, or a relevant subject area.
Salary Range Information
The annual base salary range (before taxes) for this position is $115,000 to $130,000. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus.
