What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Reference and Student Support Librarian position at Phillips Academy?
The Oliver Wendell Holmes Library at Phillips Academy Andover seeks a personable, energetic, creative, and self-directed individual to become a temporary member of our library team. The successful candidate will staff the Welcome Desk and provide research and circulation assistance to the Phillips Academy community. Additionally, this individual will assist with supporting student clubs in the evening. This is a temporary, 18-hour per week evening position, with the ability to work 4:30-9:30 PM on Mondays and Thursdays and 11:00-7:00 PM on Fridays.
The successful candidate will:
- Perform a variety of library support services at the Welcome Desk which includes checking materials in and out, renewing materials, processing reserves/holds, and other basic circulation functions in an effective, customer-oriented, and professional manner.
- Provide research and general circulation support in person, on the phone, and via email. This will include assisting patrons in locating and accessing physical and electronic materials.
- Assist the library team in monitoring all three floors of the library.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
- Ability to communicate about current information and emerging technologies.
- Knowledge of major databases used in an academic environment.
- Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Working with teens and an understanding of their mindset and interests.
- Using Evergreen ILS and SpringShare products.
