JOB OVERVIEW:
The Community Engagement Coordinator will lead efforts to strengthen community education, engagement, and outreach related to HIV prevention and care in Philadelphia. This role will focus on ensuring that community-driven strategies align with the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative, prioritizing populations most impacted by HIV including gay and bisexual men and women of color.
The Coordinator will collaborate with Philadelphia Department of Public Health team members, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to develop evidence-informed and culturally responsive health communications, events, and digital engagement strategies. This position requires expertise in community engagement, health communication, and HIV prevention strategies, ensuring all messaging aligns with citywide and funder media policies. This position reports to the Prevention Program Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Develop and implement written community engagement plans in collaboration with DHH units and funded programs.
- Plan and organize community events, town halls, and forums to promote HIV awareness, stigma reduction, and linkage to care.
- Represent DHH at community meetings to build relationships and facilitate outreach.
- Establish partnerships with key agencies and organizations to coordinate cross-promotion of HIV-related events and messages.
- Organize and facilitate training sessions and educational seminars for community members and stakeholders.
Digital & Health Communications
- Develop and manage digital outreach efforts, including social media campaigns, newsletters, and online engagement targeted at priority populations.
- Collaborate with internal content experts and stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of HIV-related health communication materials.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of engagement initiatives, using data-driven insights to improve strategies.
Administrative & Compliance
- Ensure all messaging and public-facing materials comply with Philadelphia Department of Public Health communications processes, funder requirements, and media policies.
- Support capacity-building initiatives by providing training and technical assistance on best practices in community engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support community engagement and HIV prevention efforts.
SKILLS:
- Communication & Writing: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for various audiences and platforms
- Cultural Humility & Community Engagement: Enthusiasm for meaningfully engaging with communities impacted by HIV
- Event Coordination & Flexibility: Ability to adapt to different roles as needed for community events, ensuring seamless execution
- Digital & Social Media Proficiency: Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and scheduling tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social)
- Marketing & Content Creation: Knowledge of social marketing best practices, including press release writing, email newsletters, and digital outreach
- Technical & Design Skills: Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, and email marketing tools, with basic proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud
- Project Management & Organization: Strong ability to plan, execute, and manage multiple projects efficiently, with excellent problem-solving skills
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in public health is required.
- Familiarity with Philadelphia community organizations and communities impacted by HIV
- Experience engaging with community members in a community planning or community advisory board capacity
- Experience producing communication content for a mission-oriented organization
- Experience curating and leveraging digital platforms and social media to effectively reach a target audience
- Previous experience in a non-profit or government agency is a plus. (Specific experiences desired include community-based outreach and engagement, health education, and/or partnership-building activities in a public health or health services agency.)
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in public health or a related field OR at least three to five years in a community-facing health role will be considered instead of a degree
COMPENSATION:
- Salary: $60,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications
