General Description

The Flight Nurse provides high quality, comprehensive care to critically ill and/or injured persons in the air medical environment Outside of the Continental United States.

duties and responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility or EMS services.
  • Comply with safety standards to assure safety of self, team members, patient, and equipment prior to aircraft departure.
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation, utilizing the company’s electronic health record.
  • Function as a medical flight team member demonstrating competency in knowledge by participating in clinical experiences, didactic, and laboratory experiences.
  • Attend pre-mission briefing and mission de-briefing, plan and prepare by reviewing patient information, communicate with clinical leadership, sending, and receiving clinical team members.
  • Participate in Phoenix Air Group committees, projects, activities, and positively represent the company in all interactions in public and on social media.
  • Attend clinical staff meetings, either in person or online, and participate in the development and review of patient care guidelines and standards as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform all flight missions as assigned, to include but not limited to, High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID) flights.
  • Must be able to deploy on a monthly rotation. 

skills, competencies, education, certification, and/or licensure requirements

  •  Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in the United States. BSN preferred.
  •  Minimum three-year experience, five-year or more preferred.
  • Must have BLS, ACLS, pediatric specialty, and TPATC (or ATLS audit) (may obtain the trauma course within one year after hire).
  • Certification in one of the following preferred: CFRN, CTRN, CEN, or CCRN (must obtain within two-year after hire).
  • Ability to interface with technology demands involved in delivering care within aeromedical operations.
  • Successful applicant must comply with federal contractor vaccine mandate requirements.
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret health and flight-related journals, hospital records, and job-specific legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Have a US valid passport.
  • Successful applicant must comply with federal contractor vaccine mandate requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check to obtain a security clearance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lift and/or move up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Use hands; reach with hands and arms to perform medical procedures and assessments.
  • Speak, hear, and understand verbal instructions.
  • Sit for extended periods of time frequently.
  • You will need to be comfortable flying and working in small spaces.
  • Stand, walk, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell as needed.
  • Vision abilities specifically required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While donned in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and inside a simulated infectious disease environment, to include proprietary isolation units, or working with hazardous exposures, a candidate must be able to perform all duties as required by patient’s medical condition.
