ABOUT THIS POSITION

Open during the summer months, City of Phoenix pools are a great place to learn how to swim, attend a special event, exercise, or just cool off. City of Phoenix Pools offers a variety of swimming lessons, programs, and activities for every age and ability level. Public pools are open six days a week and are closed on Fridays starting Memorial Day Weekend. The schedule allows pools to be opened through Labor Day, September 1, 2025.

Make a splash and earn some cash. We are recruiting for the 2025 part-time summer Aquatics position of Equipment Operator I. A valid driver's license is required for this position. Responsibilities include but are not limited too :

  • Daily drop off and pick up of equipment or materials to pools.
  • Load and unload equipment / materials onto and from trucks daily.
  • Assist with special events at pools.
  • Perform duties as outlined in the Pool Operations Manual and other duties as assigned.

This recruitment will be used to fill temporary part-time positions at City of Phoenix public pools. This recruitment is projected to run through the first Monday of July and will close sooner if positions are successfully filled.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of the geography and street system throughout the City.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate vehicles safely.
  • SALARY

    Part-Time Equipment Operator I $18.60

    Seasonal part-time employees will work up to 40 hours during the summer and are not eligible for the full package of benefits. Employees will have the opportunity to receive a free bus / light rail pass and earned paid sick time.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six months of experience in the operation of equipment heavier than ordinary passenger vehicles.
  • These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
  • Staff will be required to attend meetings and trainings held on evenings and weekends beginning in May and must be available to work for the entire aquatics swim season beginning Memorial Day weekend.
  • No more than 10 days off may be requested during this period.
  • You may be required to work any shift, any day of the week at any of the city's outdoor pools and facilities, throughout the summer aquatic season.
  • The working conditions will include heat, sun exposure, and evaporative cooling systems.
  • Requires the ability to pick up and drop off equipment / materials daily to pools and load and unload equipment / materials onto and from vehicles daily.
  • Requires the ability to move and carry up to 50 pounds up to 200 feet.

    The minimum qualifications listed above, plus :

  • Experience with troubleshooting vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • RECRUITMENT DATES
