Title: Network Engineering Manager
Location: Tempe, AZ (hybrid-remote, 3 days in office each week)
As the Manager of Network Engineering within the IT department, you will leverage your leadership and technical expertise to oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of a high-performing, complex hybrid infrastructure. This role demands a forward-thinking leader with 7 10 years of proven management experience who can drive strategy, dictate the pace of work, and ensure the team operates at the highest levels of efficiency and innovation.
In this critical position, you will provide strategic direction, lead a team of network engineers, and serve as the primary decision-maker for network infrastructure initiatives. Collaborating with senior IT leadership and business stakeholders, you will align technology solutions with organizational goals while fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth. You will be responsible for developing team talent, ensuring operational excellence, and delivering projects that consistently meet or exceed performance expectations.
Your role:
- Provide strong leadership and direction to the network engineering team, fostering collaboration and performance excellence.
- Define team roles and responsibilities, address skill gaps, and ensure effective task delegation.
- Mentor and train engineers, promoting professional growth and technical expertise.
- Serve as the primary contact for senior IT leadership on network strategies, challenges, and progress.
- Develop and execute strategies for network infrastructure that align with organizational goals.
- Act as the technical lead for network projects, ensuring optimal design, deployment, and operation.
- Review and approve network design proposals to ensure performance, security, and scalability.
- Oversee the implementation of security measures such as firewalls, access controls, load balancers, and zero-trust architectures.
- Analyze network performance metrics, identifying opportunities for optimization and enhancement.
- Manage 24/7/365 network operations to ensure reliable service delivery.
- Maintain connectivity across multiple data centers, including geographically diverse locations.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and organizational policies.
- Track and manage network engineering projects, ensuring timely and successful completion.
- Manage vendor relationships to optimize value and ensure alignment with business needs.
- Build and maintain a high-performing team that consistently meets organizational objectives.
- Ensure a secure and reliable network infrastructure that supports operational and strategic goals.
- Foster innovation by integrating new technologies to address complex challenges.
- Drive operational efficiency through effective project management and streamlined processes.

What you ve got:
- Bachelor s Degree or higher, or a minimum of 7 10 years of network engineering management experience.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
- Strong critical thinking, strategic planning, and time management skills.
- Exceptional communication skills to convey technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Expertise in managing vendor relationships and optimizing value.
- Extensive experience in network design, architecture, and troubleshooting across diverse infrastructures (e.g., SD-WAN, firewalls, data center switching).
- Advanced knowledge of protocols, including BGP, OSPF, QoS, static routing, Layer 3 routing, Spine/Leaf, and VxLAN.
- Hands-on experience with network technologies such as switches, routers, firewalls, cloud infrastructure, and wireless solutions.
- Proficiency with devices like Meraki, Palo Alto, and Versa, along with Azure knowledge.
- Strong understanding of servers, storage, security technologies, and colocation data center management.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards and best practices in network engineering.
- IT enterprise-level understanding of: o Various PC types and manufacturers o Peripherals such as printers, scanners, and multifunction devices o Mobile devices including phones and tablets o Cybersecurity requirements and best practices o Multiple IT domains across an enterprise o Application programming, database, and system design o Business relationship management and conflict resolution o Risk and impact analysis and resolution
- Skilled in proactively reducing customer impact by taking initiative at the right time.
- Skilled in targeting communications effectively to appropriate audiences.
- Experienced in managing and growing vendor relationships.
- Possesses business acumen to influence project outcomes with IT departments, business groups (e.g., Legal, HR, Payroll, Procurement), steering committees, partners, and stakeholders.
