As the first senior finance leader, you will own everything from day-to-day financial operations to long-term strategic planning, ensuring our startup’s financial systems are positioned for scalability and growth.

Phoenix Tailings is seeking a hands-on, strategic Director of Finance to build and scale our financial and operational infrastructure from the ground up. As the first senior finance leader, you will own everything from day-to-day financial operations to long-term strategic planning, ensuring our startup’s financial systems are positioned for scalability and growth.

Key Responsibilities
- Build and implement financial systems, accounting policies, and internal controls to support rapid growth.
- Own all financial operations, including cash flow management, payroll, AP/AR, treasury, and financial reporting.
- Develop and manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial models, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Select and implement financial software (ERP, accounting tools, FP&A models) to improve financial efficiency.
- Partner with leadership to provide data-driven financial insights that guide company growth and fundraising strategies.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and reporting requirements, working with auditors and external accountants.
- Oversee administrative functions, including vendor relationships, facilities, and operational workflows, to support business needs.
- Build and lead a small, high-performing finance and operations team, fostering a culture of accountability and efficiency.
- 5-7 years of finance leadership experience in a startup, with a proven track record of building financial systems from scratch.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
- Experience implementing financial software and systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP tools).
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity, adapt to rapid growth, and build scalable financial and operational processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn financial data into actionable insights.
- Experience working in manufacturing, deep tech, or industrial sectors is a plus.
- CPA, MBA, or advanced finance degree preferred but not required.
