HVAC Technician
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current HVAC license from the State of Iowa
- Universal license for handling refrigerants
- Possess the ability to size, specify, design, cost estimate, order and install all types of HVAC parts and equipment
- Experience in troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing commercial HVAC systems, chillers, heat pumps, low pressure steam, and hot water boilers
- Knowledge of local and state codes and industry standards
- Experience adjusting and troubleshooting pneumatic and DDC controls
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable per Crafts Classification Level
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbal and written
- Maintain a current, valid driver’s license
- Experience with computers and email
REPORTS TO: Crafts Manager
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOALS: Under the supervision of the Crafts Manager, direct the renovation, repair, and maintenance of all HVAC systems in the district as well perform the duties to accomplish this in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform the work of department HVAC technician
- Service and maintain all the District’s HVAC equipment as needed
- Diagnose, repair, design or replace all HVAC equipment including hot water and steam boiler heating systems, air conditioning systems, ventilation systems, refrigeration equipment, pneumatic, electronic control systems, and direct digital control systems
- Manage, inspect and report on work performed by service contractors related field
- Assist in the design of renovation, upgrade and remodeling projects in coordination with other departments
- Work with authorities having jurisdiction to secure permits and satisfy inspection requirements
- Assists with general plumbing operations as needed
- Maintain a safe work environment
- Performs duties as a member of the district snow removal team
- Must be able to respond to critical needs at any time of day or night, extending beyond a typical work day in coordination with other technicians.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, and continuous standing
- May be exposed to dust, dirt, chemicals, fumes, inclement weather and UV rays
- Work is both indoors and outdoors
- Must be physically and medically able to wear respiratory protection
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Twelve-month year, wages and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
