Job Summary
The Medical Records Clerk for Physician Correctional, USA is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and assisting in the coordination of off-site medical appointments. This role additionally supports the healthcare team by handling other administrative tasks as assigned as well as assisting with patient care coordination at the St. Louis City Justice Center.
Responsibilities
- Efficiently organize and maintain patient medical records, ensuring they are complete and up-to-date.
- Review and verify the accuracy of medical documentation submitted by healthcare providers.
- Process requests for medical records from patients, healthcare professionals, and authorized entities in compliance with HIPAA and facility privacy regulations.
- Schedule offsite medical appointments for incarcerated patients and coordinate with transportation services to ensure patients attend scheduled appointments.
- Arrange X-ray appointments and maintain a yearly calendar of all scheduled appointments and ensure their results are cataloged in the EHR.
- Collaborate with other medical office staff to facilitate smooth operations and effective communication regarding patient records.
Skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping and data entry.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of healthcare documentation standards and privacy requirements (HIPAA).
- Excellent professional communication skills when interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems or similar medical office software is preferred.
- May involve occasional standing, walking, and lifting of medical records or office supplies.
