About the Role:
We are looking for an employee who would be responsible for prepping records to be scanned within the facility and assisting with medical record/release of information activities.
Supervision Received:
Reports to the Health Information Supervisor; Health Information Services Manager; Operations Director.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged standing or sitting. Requires frequent bending, stooping, or stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment.
Typical Working Conditions:
Normal office environment.
Responsibilities:
- Preps medical record information from the Arlington location for scanning (adding medical record number and provider, removing staples, clipping multiple pages together and preparing scanning cover sheet by specialty).
- Assists the scanning department with quality checks.
- Removes items from the medical record fax and forwards to the appropriate area for processing.
- Answers medical records phone tree for the Arlington location. Assists callers with routine medical record requests in accordance with established procedures. Answers all calls in a friendly and professional matter.
- Follows medical records’ policies and procedures.
- Assists the release of information staff with patient and provider record requests. Responsible for documenting the release/disclosure in the electronic medical record by utilizing the appropriate form component.
- Responsible for calculating the charge for medical record requests to patients. Provides charge to release of information staff to create encounter and charge in the practice management system.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintain a team approach with staff and patients.
- Confronts all work with a positive attitude and has basic knowledge of other areas within the organization.
- Performs other duties, as requested by the Supervisor/Manager.
Location & Commitments:
FT/PT/Temp/PRN role based at our Greenville location, Monday-Friday, 8a.m. – 5 p.m.
Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner.
Weekend work is rare but can occasionally be necessary.
Candidate Requirements:
Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in medical office technology or related curriculum highly preferred. Must have experience/knowledge of medical records and EMR, as well as knowledge of health data systems and medical records coding, classification, indexing, quality control and assessment.
