Description

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator is a member of the Piedmont University Athletic Department reporting to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance. The Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator is responsible for all operational aspects of the university's Strength and Conditioning Program.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Oversees all activities performed in the Strength and Conditioning Department

Manages departmental budget for strength and conditioning

Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment in the strength and conditioning facility (SCF)

Oversees Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coordinator (if applicable)

Ensure proper communication between strength and conditioning staff and athletic training staff as to status and limitations of injured athletes.

Keeping proper amounts of emergency medical supplies available in the SCF.

Liaison to the Athletic Administration regarding suspected unsafe activities of athletes. (i.e. eating disorders, recreational and performance enhancing drug use, etc.)

Develop and maintain policies and procedures that govern SCF use and staff.

Develop and maintain policies and procedures that govern use of the SCF.

Ensure the maintenance of a clean and safe environment in which to train.

Work with Director of Daily Operations to schedule space for training session outside of the SCF.

Act as a resource in all areas of strength and conditioning for student-athletes, and coaches.

Acts as a preceptor for students in the Health and Human Performance Program

Maintains proper records

  • Develops a work schedule affording accessibility to student-athletes;

Reports on needs and maintenance of SCF

Attends professional meetings, clinics, and workshops as appropriate.

Collaborates with the Coordinator of Campus Recreation & Wellness when necessary.

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator accepts other duties, as assigned, to insure the successful operation of athletic department activities.

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance. He / She shares the responsibility for the overall general operation of the athletic department.

Other relevant duties as assigned.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

On-site work is required.

Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree; 3 - 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specific to this description.
  • Completed degree(s) that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Licenses and Certification

  • Must hold a CSCS certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or SCCC certification by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. (CSCCa)
  • Must be First Aid / CPR / AED Certified
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) and satisfactory MVR.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Oversee the activities of the athletics weight room as assigned. Ensure safe operation and professional supervision of the facility.
  • Design and implement proper, efficient, scientifically sound training programs for assigned teams.
  • Work with head coaches to plan, organize, and facilitate the strength and conditioning needs for assigned teams daily.
  • Evaluate individual performance and provide leadership and instruction in strength and conditioning improvement for individual student-athletes on assigned teams.
  • Assist in the planning and administering of the off-season physical training program in conjunction with the head coaches of assigned teams. Work with the sport coaches to assess specific needs of the team or on an individual basis.
  • Staying current in trends for strength and conditioning workout tools that would best meet the needs of our student athletes.
  • Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
  • Assists in conducting public relations and marketing activities to promote athletic programs; perform community relation activities.
  • Conduct workouts in a safe, efficient, organized manner in compliance with NCAA regulations.
  • Develops and maintains positive and professional customer service and relations within the office and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, administrators, other employees, other agency personnel and community members. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports the "Student's First" value at Piedmont and routinely goes the extra mile in providing service. Completes all work in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
  • Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absence.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite : Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

    ENVIRONMENTAL, PHYSICAL, and VISUAL ACUITY FACTORS

    Essential functions of this position require incumbents to work in both inside and outside environmental conditions. Incumbents could be exposed to extreme heat (high temperature and humidity) and extreme cold (temperatures below freezing). Additionally, incumbents will be subject to noise levels causing incumbents to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level.

    Incumbents duties will require a medium level of work where they will exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally, 20lbs of force frequently, and / or 10lbs of force constantly to move objects. Essential functions require incumbents to : climb to ascend stairs, ladders, and / or hills; balance to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling; stoop by bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist; kneel; crouch; crawl; reach; stand; walking; push and pull; lift; use fingering and grasping; feel; talk to exchange ideas; hear at normal speaking levels; and make repetitive motions.

    Visual acuity is required to allow incumbents to operate motor vehicles.
