Position Description – Simulation Coordinator of Nursing and Allied Health Programs

Position Purpose:
Piedmont Virginia Community College seeks an innovative and collaborative individual to join our team as the Simulation Coordinator of Nursing and Allied Health Programs, including, but not limited to, Radiography, Sonography, Surgical Technology, EMS-paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, and other healthcare programs.
Appointment Date: July 1, 2025, or as soon as hired.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the review of scheduled simulations, objectives, and required preparations.
- Assist faculty with clinical simulations and student learning activities.
- Ensure the accuracy of scenarios, props, and documents.
- Manage setup, operation, and take down of simulations and equipment.
- Prepare the debriefing room and necessary materials.
- Operate and troubleshoot simulation technology.
- Program, test, and run simulation scenarios.
- Support students in practicing and demonstrating lab skills.
- Provide oversight to students working with mannequins during simulations, under the guidance of instructors.
- Orient students to simulation rooms and manikins.
In collaboration with the healthcare lab manager:
- Maintain and troubleshoot simulation technology, including A/V systems, high-fidelity simulators, and medical equipment.
- Schedule and perform routine simulator maintenance.
- Clean, repair, and ensure all equipment remains in working order.
- Manage inventory, track supplies, and recommend purchases.
- Collaborate with IT and vendors for technical support and system maintenance.
- Train faculty and staff on simulation technology.
- Audit, test, and update systems to meet current specifications.
- Integrate emerging simulation technologies and participate in ongoing training.
- Develop supplemental instructional materials with faculty and program heads.
- Assist in selecting and implementing instructional software and assessment tools.
- Support nursing and allied health program accreditation and reaccreditation processes.
- Bachelor’s degree or experiential/functional equivalent in a healthcare or science related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in education and simulations within the allied health field.
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills, advanced knowledge of simulation technologies and methodologies, and strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong commitment to the community college mission and philosophy, students, and teaching in a community college.
- Availability during day, evening, and weekend hours as necessary.
- Master’s degree or higher.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or must be willing to obtain certification within the first year of employment.
- One year or more of simulation experience.
