Lifeguard Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:

Conducts all aspects of American Red Cross Lifeguard training. Instructs class participants in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies

• Instructs American Red Cross lifeguarding training in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly

• Knows, understand, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatics area

• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, skill completion, answer sheets, etc.)

• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available and prepared

• Organizes and puts away appropriate equipment. Reports damaged equipment

• Adheres to all American Red Cross curriculum standards and requirements

• Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age of 18
• American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification
• American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
• American Red Cross Babysitters Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
• 1-3 years of lifeguarding experience
• Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite
• Effective leader with the ability to communicate, motivate, and guide participants of all ages.

• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills with instructor level competency
