POSITION SUMMARY:
Conducts all aspects of American Red Cross Lifeguard training. Instructs class participants in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies

Instructs American Red Cross lifeguarding training in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly

Knows, understand, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatics area

Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, skill completion, answer sheets, etc.)

Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available and prepared

Organizes and puts away appropriate equipment. Reports damaged equipment

Adheres to all American Red Cross curriculum standards and requirements

Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 18
- American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification
- American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- American Red Cross Babysitters Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- 1-3 years of lifeguarding experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite
- Effective leader with the ability to communicate, motivate, and guide participants of all ages.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills with instructor level competency
