The primary responsibility of a host/hostess is to present a positive first impression of the restaurant’s friendliness, excellent service and high standards. The host/hostess is responsible for greeting the guest upon arrival, informing guests of their wait times, monitoring the waiting list, showing guests to their tables, and bidding farewell as guests leave.
Job Responsibilities:
- Greet incoming and departing guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact
- Monitor the wait list and wait times
- Manage the flow of guests into the dining room and bar areas; provide accurate wait times to incoming guests
- Escort waiting guests to their assigned dining area, presenting menus and announcing the waiter/waitress name
- Answer incoming phone calls and provide appropriate service such as booking reservations and advising of hours of operation, promotions, and special requests
- Tend to special guests needs as requested
- Observe tables, keeping track of table status (clean/dirty/occupied)
- Assist with opening/closing tasks and side-work as needed
- Become familiar with the menu, including daily/weekly food and beverage specials
- Keep host area neat and clean
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Previous food & beverage experience is preferred
- Must have basic math skills in order to carry out cash-handling procedures and measure appropriate wait times
- Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills
- Must be a “people-person” - able to carry on a natural conversation with guests without sounding scripted or intrusive
- Ability to work with a team in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, twist and reach
- Must be able to lift up to 20lbs as needed
- Must be able to have continuous use of hands and arms
