What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Camp Counselor Temporary - Deep Roots Day Camp position at Pierce County?
We are hosting the Pierce County Career Event with scheduled and on-the-spot interviews on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 1-4 p.m., at Pioneer Park Pavilion in Puyallup WA. Applications received prior to the event may be scheduled for interview at the event.
- This is a temporary extra hire position for up to 40 hours per week from April 7 to April 11, 2025, and/or again from June 23 to August 8, 2025. Additional days, evenings, and weekends may be assigned for camp training as well as to assist with events and programs when applicable.
- These temporary positions are not eligible for County benefits.

How to be Successful in the Role:
Bring in your knowledge and understanding of working with different age groups and you will succeed in this position. Be someone who can exercise mature judgment to ensure the safety and enjoyment of program participants. You will work with groups of children in a recreational setting so being able to explain, facilitate, and lead activities will be key. We are looking for someone who can problem solve, tactfully work with the public, and possess organizational skills while remaining flexible. Also, maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, and volunteers.
Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a group of campers throughout the camp day.
- Engage all campers in a positive way.
- Facilitate assigned activities throughout the camp day.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and inclusive environment throughout each activity and within camp.
- Assist during communal times such as check-in, check-out, snack, and lunch.
- Assist with organization and cleanup of all program equipment.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of any all-camp activities.
- Participate fully in all required staff meetings/trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Recreation Coordinator.
- High School diploma or GED
- A minimum of 18 years of age
- Experience working with children in a recreational setting or desire to work with children in a recreational setting
- Ability to work in a physically active, high-energy environment for 8 hours daily
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
