We are hosting the Pierce County Career Event with scheduled and on-the-spot interviews on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 1-4 p.m., at Pioneer Park Pavilion in Puyallup WA. Applications received prior to the event may be scheduled for interview at the event.

The Camp Director will play a role in the development of camp staff and program and will be the primary person ensuring that camp is a fun, engaging, safe place for all of our campers and staff. As the Camp Director, your focus will be on the continued daily facilitation of the camp program as well as the mentorship and growth of Camp Counselors.

Bring in your knowledge and understanding of working with different age groups and you will succeed in this position. Be someone who can exercise mature judgment to ensure the safety and enjoyment of program participants. You will work with groups of staff and children in a recreational setting so being able to explain, facilitate, and lead activities will be key. We are looking for someone who can problem solve, tactfully work with the public, and possess organizational skills while remaining flexible. Also, maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, and volunteers.

- This is a temporary extra hire position for up to 40 hours per week from April 7 to April 11, 2025, and/or again from June 23 to August 8, 2025. Please see specific schedule below.
- These temporary positions are not eligible for County benefits.

Core Daily Responsibilities
- Lead, assist in training, oversee, and help develop caring camp counselors
- Create an inclusive, safe environment within camp.
- Help plan, program, and Supervise Camp programming.
- Assign and provide daily schedules to counselors.
- Execute and Enforce the Camp policies including behavior management plan.
- Provide timely and regular parent communication.
- Ensure program supplies are prepped and present.
- Lead/participate fully in all required staff meetings/trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Recreation Coordinator.
- High School diploma or GED
- A minimum of 25 years of age
- Experience working with children or desire to work with children in a recreational setting
- Experience leading other staff
- Ability to work in a physically active, high-energy environment for 8 hours daily
- Ability to lift 25lbs
JOB DETAILS
- Physical Location: Frontier Park and Meridian Habitat Park
- Salary: $19.88 per hour
- Schedule: up to 40 hours/week during camp season, 16 /week during shoulder and prep seasons
- Flexible schedule in April-May and September
- Monday-Friday during the camp season late June-August
