GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Professor of Respiratory Care / Director of Clinical Education is a full-time faculty position responsible for teaching and mentoring students in the Respiratory Care program while overseeing the clinical education components of the program. The individual in this role will ensure the effective delivery of high-quality clinical education experiences and collaborate with healthcare institutions to create learning opportunities that align with program goals and industry standards. The Assistant Professor will also contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the curriculum and engage in scholarly activities related to respiratory care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach courses in Respiratory Care, including didactic, laboratory, and clinical components.
- Develop, implement, and assess instructional materials, activities, and resources for the Respiratory Care program.
- Engage in continuous improvement of the curriculum to ensure it meets current industry standards, accrediting body requirements, and educational best practices.
- Foster a collaborative and engaging learning environment for students, using innovative teaching methods, including technology and simulation.
- Direct, organize, and manage all clinical education experiences for respiratory care students, ensuring that students are placed in appropriate healthcare settings.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with clinical sites and healthcare institutions to facilitate student internships, clinical rotations, and educational opportunities.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of students during clinical rotations, ensuring that they meet competency-based clinical objectives.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students regarding their clinical performance.
- Work with faculty and clinical instructors to ensure that clinical experiences align with program standards and learning outcomes.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to students within the Respiratory Care program.
- Offer guidance on career development, certifications, and professional growth within the field.
- Assist students in identifying and overcoming academic and clinical challenges.
- Ensure the clinical education program meets the accreditation standards set by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and other relevant bodies.
- Develop and maintain records for student clinical hours, assessments, and performance evaluations to meet accreditation requirements.
- Participate in programmatic self-studies, assessments, and continuous improvement processes.
- Serve on departmental, institutional, and program committees as needed.
- Participate in faculty meetings and other institutional events to contribute to the growth and development of the Respiratory Care program.
- Assist with recruitment and retention efforts for students in the Respiratory Care program.
- Support accreditation efforts and maintain strong communication with program administrators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with healthcare professionals, clinical instructors, and faculty.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in respiratory care education and clinical practice.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement clinical education programs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required.
- Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist credentials and current West Virginia state license.
- A minimum of four years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which at least two years must include experience in clinical respiratory care.
- A minimum of two years’ experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program, either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
- The successful candidate will have to complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program upon hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Conditions are those of a typical office environment, requiring frequent oral communication with students and colleagues, the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner, and sufficient mobility to be present and address students, their parents, and fellow professionals at appropriate college and regional functions.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 15 pounds; standing, siting and/or walking for brief to long periods
