What are the responsibilities and job description for the Beef Testing Coordinator position at Pig Improvement Company (PIC) - North America?
ABS Global, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Beef Testing Coordinator to join our team. The Beef Testing Coordinator has primary accountability for managing logistics and data for the Beef InFocus Cornerstone program, beef progeny test program, product validation trials, and research trials in the U.S., while supporting data collection efforts for the Genetic Nucleus program.
This position is located in DeForest, WI and remote work in the central U.S. will be considered for the right candidate.
- Manage logistics of data collection for the ABS Beef InFocus (beef x dairy) program, progeny test program, product validation trials, and research trials across the U.S.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external partners and customers in the beef and dairy industry.
- Coordinate data collection on dairies and throughout the beef supply chain (birth to harvest).
- Work with partner herds to ensure test units are distributed and placed in a timely manner, following designated protocols.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities to build and improve data collection pipelines.
- Organize, aggregate, and pre-process data for database loading.
- Coordinate and perform tissue sampling for genotyping and manage submission processes to the genotyping provider.
- Ensure animal and sire identification data completeness.
- Collaborate with producers, feedlots, packers, and other stakeholders to communicate data collection needs, including data type and format.
- Participate in custom genetic programs to ensure timely data collection that meets quality standards, and assist in data collection as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related field with 3 years of experience in the beef industry
- 1 years large animal handling experience
- Experience collecting and managing data
- Good understanding of all segments of the US beef industry, including the type and scope of data generated in each.
- Proven ability to work on a team as well as independently to achieve objectives
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficient in computer programs, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Extensive travel required (at least 50%). Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
- Experience working with animal genetic data preferred
