Job Overview:
As the Vice President Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day operations of the organization to ensure efficiency, productivity, and profitability. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will play a critical role in implementing the company's strategic vision and goals. You will collaborate with senior management to develop and execute operational strategies that align with the company's objectives and drive sustainable growth.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Work closely with the CEO and other senior executives to develop and refine the company's strategic plan. Translate strategic objectives into actionable operational plans and initiatives.
- Operational Oversight: Provide leadership and direction to all operational functions, including but not limited to manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, EH&S, facilities & engineering and operational excellence initiatives. Implement best practices to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Deliver production schedule safely, in line with quality requirements and GMP
- Ensure the manufacturing team receives the necessary direction, coaching, and support to meet company, departmental and customer goals. (training is lacking)
- Performance Management: Ensure all operational functions, receive the necessary direction, coaching, and support to meet departmental goals and are aligned to meet company goals
- Safety: Drive and foster a robust EHS program that meets or exceeds departmental and company goals
- Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Collaborate with finance and other stakeholders to develop annual operating budgets and allocate resources effectively. Monitor budget performance and make adjustments as needed to ensure financial targets are met.
- Talent Management: Build and develop a high-performing team by recruiting, training, and retaining top talent. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation within the organization.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges to the business operations and develop strategies to mitigate them. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Technology and Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and competitiveness. Champion the adoption of new technologies and digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stakeholder Relations: Serve as a key liaison between internal departments, external partners, vendors, and stakeholders. Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively to achieve common goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in pharmacy, chemical engineering, biology, or a related field. An advanced degree (e.g., MBA or MS) is preferred.
- Extensive experience (10 years) in pharmaceutical operations management, with a track record of success in a leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical drug product manufacturing processes (in particular aseptic fill/finish), quality systems, and regulatory requirements (FDA, cGMP, etc.).
- Strong leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to drive cross-functional collaboration and influence organizational change.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record of driving operational excellence, process improvements, and cost optimization initiatives. (driving culture of accountability)
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, or other continuous improvement frameworks is a plus.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Must communicate fluently in English and have legible handwriting.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to travel between and within facilities to visit staff, operations, and projects as needed.
- Ability to sit, stand, climb stairs, and climb ladders to mezzanines (when necessary).
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on occasion.
Ability to use PPE (safety shoes, goggles, respirators, gloves, etc. when necessary
