SUMMARY:

The Director of Grants is responsible for leading Pillars Community Health's effort to secure new and renewed grant funding to support PCH services, activities and strategic priorities. PCH relies on a variety of grant funding sources including corporate and private foundations, and federal, state, and local government entities including 708 Mental Health Boards. The Director works strategically with the Chief External Affairs Officer, senior management, program leadership, and Finance Team to


  • Ensure that appropriate grant funding streams are in place to support current and planned organizational operations

  • Lead the grants application and renewal process for current and prospective funders.

  • Implement internal processes and controls, including grants audit process, to ensure grant agreement execution, funder acknowledgement, reporting on expected outcomes, and compliance with grant requirements and contracts., including reporting on expected outcomes

  • Seek new funding sources and evaluate based on established organizational criteria and identified needs

  • Ensure the appropriate and continued cultivation and acknowledgement of grant funding from corporate, foundation, and government sources.


The Director will communicate and work effectively with the organization's many different constituencies and stakeholder groups and is expected to contribute broadly in communicating the organization's mission to the public, government and foundation funding sources. The Director plays a fundamental role in implementing strategic funding plans for continued growth.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following, with other duties as assigned:


Supervisory

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and hiring staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance, providing coaching and development, addressing concerns and resolving problems, and completing administrative documentation as required by the position.


Grant Prospecting and Stewardship

  • Identify and research foundation and government sources of funding and review their grant guidelines to identify matches for specific organizational programs and projects

  • Research current and future trends in PCH services and funding opportunities

  • Work closely with Chief External Affairs Officer and VP of Strategic Partnerships to develop communication and application strategies for legislative-supported funding opportunities

  • Participate in grantor cultivation and stewardship efforts led by Chief External Affairs Officer


Grant Planning and Application:

  • Work closely with senior leaders and program leads to evaluate new funding opportunities in light of planned activities, funding needs, and correlation with organizational strategic goals.

  • Lead application process for both new and renewal grants, coordinating Grants Management Team, program staff, and Finance Team to complete application requirements including description of the organization, statement of need, project goals and objectives, budget and cover letter and supporting documents.

  • Lead efforts with Grants Management Team members and program staff to craft compelling narrative which incorporates needs, goals, and match with funder priorities.

  • Review final applications before submission to CEAO, CEO or identified executive team members, allowing for processing time before grant application deadlines

  • Upon notice of grant award, ensure timely execution of grant agreements, plan to address any terms or conditions, and communication with program staff.

  • Upon notice of award, work closely with program staff to review expected outcomes and grant activities, reporting requirements, assignment of grant responsibilities and creation of reporting worksheets

Lead the Grants Management Team to:

  • create, maintain and monitor grant action calendars and status report tracking

  • Monitor progress of applications once submitted and follow-up on requests including correspondence and requests for additional information

  • Maintain master grant files in the Pillars Community Health CMR system and server, including application, acceptance and agreement files Maintain hard copy files as required by funders.

  • Ensure timely execution of grant agreements and tracking implementation of contract requirements (e.g. Insurance coverage, submission of audited financial statements, etc.)

  • Maintain collection of grant narratives, current supporting documents, and internal and external needs data for inclusion in grant applications.

  • Participate in program services planning and measurement of outcomes to stay fully informed of organizational goals and needs of programs

  • Serve as the Grants liaison with program staff for funding initiatives

  • Develop and manage annual grant revenue goals and budgets

  • Prepare Grant status reports for inclusion in External Committee reports to Board of Directors.

Communication/Data:

  • Work closely with VP of Marketing and Communications to develop and maintain common narratives and needs data for consistent organizational messaging.

  • Work closely with program leaders and quality staff to prepare annual patient/client utilization and demographic data for grant application, narrative, and needs assessment.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Business, Public Health, or other related fields that would have provided coursework requiring structured written communication. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience in public health, community health, or non-profit is required.
  • At least five (5) years of grant writing experience, which must include demonstrated working knowledge of Government Grant (local, state and national government) application processes as well as foundation funding.
  • Experience leading an organizational team through the grant application process particularly for government funding opportunities (HRSA, SAMHSA)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program budgeting and financial statements

OTHER

Must maintain a safe driving record and have a current valid Driver's License. Position will require local travel between PCH work sites. Mileage for authorized work-related purposes is reimbursable.


PAY & BENEFIT INFORMATION

$75,000 - $85,000

  • Wage is based on one's experience and qualifications as compared with our position requirements and other similar employees within the organization.
