New York Metro Area law firm with national practice seeks attorneys with varying degrees of experience in General Liability defense work. New York Bar required and New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania Bars a plus. Trial experience a plus. Excellent work environment and opportunity for qualified candidates.
The selected candidate will perform duties encompassing all aspects of insurance defense, including initial investigation and legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre-trial discovery, preparing for and aggressively handling hearings and trials and conducting post-trial activities where appropriate.
We are looking for demonstrated case analysis ability, a track record of proven trial and settlement skills and the ability to work independently with moderate supervision.

Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients, including insurance companies and their policyholders, in general liability matters, such as personal injury, premises liability, and construction accident cases.
- Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters from inception through resolution, including depositions, discovery, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
- Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other legal documents.
- Conduct and coordinate fact investigations, including the gathering of evidence, expert testimony, and witness interviews.
- Provide legal counsel to clients on case strategy, risk exposure, and potential outcomes.
- Handle settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes, including mediation and arbitration.
- Represent clients in court appearances, including hearings, motions, and trials.
- Work with insurance adjusters, experts, and other professionals to assess liability and damages.
- Stay up-to-date with developments in insurance defense law, case law, and regulations.
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates and advise on case strategy.
- Assist with the development of junior associates and legal staff, providing guidance and mentorship.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the New York State Bar.
- 3-6 years of experience in insurance defense, with a focus on general liability and tort defense.
- Strong knowledge of New York liability laws, insurance defense practices, and risk management strategies.
- Experience in drafting legal documents and conducting discovery.
- Proven trial experience and/or participation in trial preparation.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to assess and handle settlement options effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with case management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in handling cases related to construction accidents, product liability, and/or medical malpractice.
- Previous experience working directly with insurance companies or as part of an in-house legal team.
- Trial experience or a demonstrated interest in developing trial skills.
- Familiarity with managing high-volume caseloads.
