Job Overview

The Shop Foreman plays a critical role in overseeing shop operations and supporting field projects by managing equipment, materials, and personnel. This position ensures timely, high-quality completion of repairs, rebuilds, and fabrication tasks while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical and organizational skills, capable of coordinating logistics, mentoring teams, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver exceptional results. This role reports directly to the Vice President of Operations and requires 25% travel to job sites.


Responsibilities

  • Operational Management: Oversee daily shop activities, including scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation, to meet project deadlines, budgets, and quality standards. Partner with the VP of Operations and Operations Manager to prioritize and execute work orders.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor mechanics, yard technicians, and shop staff, fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture that emphasizes accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Logistics & Project Support: Coordinate the receipt, shipment, and transfer of equipment, augers, forms, and materials between the shop and job sites to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Fabrication Expertise: Design and fabricate custom solutions—such as metal forms, jigs, and trailer buildouts—to support field operations, sourcing materials as needed.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct final inspections of repairs, rebuilds, and modifications, ensuring compliance with company standards, blueprints, and specifications. Address any quality issues promptly.
  • Safety Leadership: Enforce safety policies aligned with company and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA), lead safety meetings, and collaborate with EH&S teams to maintain a secure workplace.
  • Inventory Control: Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and materials, procuring supplies and coordinating delivery to field crews as required.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance shop efficiency, implement best practices, and develop strategies to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Technical Skills: Operate tools and equipment (e.g., welding, forklifts, skid steers), troubleshoot issues, and test repairs to ensure performance standards are met.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records, including timesheets, production logs, inventory reports, equipment inspections, and safety documentation.


Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction, industrial repair, or maintenance, with a proven track record in shop operations or fabrication.
  • Strong leadership experience, with the ability to supervise teams and foster a positive work environment.
  • Expertise in machinery, vehicles, and equipment relevant to foundation construction, including troubleshooting and tool operation.
  • Proficiency in fabrication techniques (e.g., MIG welding, plasma cutting) and designing production jigs.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage schedules, resources, and inventory while meeting deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification (active and maintained).
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., smartphone/iPad) for project-related applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
  • Willingness to travel (25% ) and be on call 24/7 for after-hours needs.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen.


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to work in a shop and outdoor setting, including standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs. constantly, over 50 lbs. occasionally), and operating equipment.
  • Comfortable with exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
  • Requires physical agility to navigate construction sites, climb ladders/stairs, and work at heights or in confined spaces as needed.
  • Vision and hearing abilities (with or without aids) sufficient to perform essential tasks safely.
