Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department - Conveyance Division is seeking self-starters eager to learn new skills within a team environment repairing and maintaining 23 pump stations located throughout Pima County. Pump Stations are a vital component of the sewer system; they are needed to pump flow back to the gravity lines in a Conveyance System.
Essential Functions
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
One year of experience working in industrial mechanical maintenance and repair, pumping systems, electrical systems, or power generation engine maintenance. (Work experience limited to automotive, truck, or heavy equipment maintenance is not qualifying experience.)
Or
One year of experience with Pima County as a Maintenance Mechanic, Utility Service Worker I, Trades Maintenance Helper, or Trades Maintenance Technician in other than automotive, truck, or heavy equipment repair and/or maintenance.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at time of application or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period. Constantly observes details at close range. Frequently required to exchange accurate information. Frequently remains in a stationary position. Frequently moves tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Frequently operates a motor vehicle or golf cart safely and legally, in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws. Occasionally moves tools and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs. Occasionally ascends/descends machinery and equipment to repair/service. Frequently ascending and descending ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites.
Working Conditions: Some positions may be required to go on an on-call rotation. Constantly exposed to loud noise levels. Constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to mechanical oils, vibration and risk of electrical shock. Working with or in the presence of obnoxious odors. - Performs repairs and routine maintenance of industrial wastewater pumps, pumping systems, industrial electrical systems, and power-generating engines;
- Assists Wastewater Mechanics, Trades Maintenance Specialists, and Technicians in non-routine maintenance, repairs, and construction of assigned facilities and systems;
- Assists Wastewater Mechanics in the repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater conveyance systems;
- Assists other journey-level trade workers, such as painters, welders, electricians, and instrumentation technicians;
- Assists specialists/technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of specialized equipment or controls;
- Lifts and moves heavy materials, tools, and supplies;
- Uses and maintains safety and personal protective equipment;
- Performs operator-level maintenance, servicing, and adjustments of common tools and equipment; Performs worksite clean-up following completion of jobs.

- Minimum one (1) year experience in construction, installation, trouble-shooting and alignment of heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in welding and fabrication.
- Minimum one (1) year experience maintaining work history for maintenance and preventative maintenance activity logs.
- Minimum one (1) year experience with/skill in interpreting blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
