Highwall Miner Foreman

The Highwall Miner Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of a highwall mining crew. This includes ensuring the safe operation of the highwall miner, maintaining productivity, and adhering to all safety and environmental regulations. The foreman will work closely with other supervisors, operators, and maintenance personnel to ensure smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervision & Leadership:

  • Lead and manage a team of highwall miner operators and support personnel.
  • Ensure all personnel adhere to safety protocols and company policies.
  • Provide training and mentorship to crew members, promoting skill development and teamwork.

• Operations Management:

  • Oversee the operation of highwall mining equipment, ensuring maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor mining activities to ensure adherence to mining plans and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers and other supervisors to optimize mining processes and address any operational challenges.

• Safety & Compliance:

  • Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local mining regulations, including MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) standards.
  • Respond to and investigate any accidents, incidents, or near-misses, and implement corrective actions as needed.

• Maintenance Coordination:

  • Work with maintenance teams to schedule and oversee the maintenance and repair of highwall mining equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is kept in good working condition to minimize downtime and prevent accidents.

• Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of mining operations, including production data, equipment usage, and safety inspections.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to management on production, safety, and equipment performance.

• Communication:

  • Liaise with other departments, such as engineering, maintenance, and logistics, to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members, providing clear instructions and feedback.

Qualifications:

• Experience:
  • 3 years of experience in highwall mining operations.
• Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical training or certifications in mining operations, safety, or equipment operation is preferred.
  • WV Surface Miner Certification required
  • WV Surface Foreman Certification required
• Skills:
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of highwall mining equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret mining plans and technical documents.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
