Teacher Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Director: Serve as Lead Teacher in classroom and assist with Planning, coordinating, and facilitating the implementation of the Early Learning Guidelines (ELG) core features, Head Start Performance Standards, and Department Human Services (DHS) regulations. These responsibilities are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.

Programming Responsibilities
1. Plan and facilitate a daily program of care and activities for the assigned classroom.
2. Contribute to the effective operation of the overall childcare program.
3. Develop and implement daily/weekly activity lesson plans. Responsible for the
arrangement of space, setting, and materials in the classroom and with outdoor
equipment, to ensure a safe clean, orderly child centered learning environment, and
consistent daily schedule for children's calm, comfortable and successful participation
in the program. Individualizes programming according to children's interests and
developmental goals.
4. Document and assess the children’s individual progress and the progress of the group
as a whole using Teaching Strategies Gold, Documentation Panels, Individual and
Classroom Portfolios, using Authentic Assessment with Photographs, Work Samples
Anecdotal Notes.
5. Hold formal Family-Teacher Conferences two times a year and provide informal
communication opportunities for families.
6. Maintain a Family Resource Board in the classroom.
7. Collaborate with Center Director and Administrative Staff in the supervision and
training of Teachers & Assistant Teachers. Assist with monitoring Teachers progress &
Assistant Teacher progress in all areas of their performance.
8. Establish and maintain developmentally appropriate, safe and nurturing learning
environment according to program educational philosophy.
9. Completes housekeeping procedures within the classroom and in common areas as
assigned. Monitor center sanitation procedures and promptly report any maintenance
concerns to the Director.

Administrative Responsibilities
1. Observe and share information regarding child’s activities and experiences with
parent/guardian.
2. Practice emergency evacuation procedures monthly and maintain Fire and Safety
checklist.
3. Assist with record keeping, respond to inquiries directed to the Center, and perform
other administrative and programmatic duties as assigned.
4. Assist with the Early Head Start Partnership, in conjunction with the Local Evaluation
Partner (LEP), 1 Pine Premier Child Care, Inc. (PPCC) ensuring that child medical
home is provided and completion of child screenings and assessments.
5. Participate in and prepare for classroom and center staff meetings, family meetings,
family conferences and center promotional activities as necessary or assigned.
6. Arrange for own substitute whenever possible.
7. Protects all confidential information.
8. Attends all required meetings and trainings.

Supervisory Responsibilities
1. Assist with evaluation of classroom staff, including Assistant Teachers and volunteers.
Monitors the progress in all areas of their performance and provides written and verbal
feedback to Center Director as well as the assisting staff.
2. Coordinate team-planning meetings as needed. General Responsibilities
3. Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children.
4. Coordinate snack and meal planning, preparation and clean up in accordance with
state licensing guidelines.
5. Provide recommendations and referrals of children with special needs.
6. Maintain a professional working atmosphere and confidentiality of information in
relation to staff, children and families.
7. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Center Director.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 Demonstrates knowledge of school or center policies, expectations, and requirements.  Exhibits ability to remain calm, professional, and understanding when dealing with
frustrated parents or misbehaved children.
 Possesses mental and physical stamina required to work with small children.
 Demonstrates knowledge of proper first aid and emergency response procedures.

Education and Experience
 CDA and/or Teacher certification is required.
 Associate of Arts Degree: Early Childhood Development.
 Minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
 Must demonstrate experience and interest in working with young children, parents,
and volunteers.

 Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood
 development including working with parents.
 Must demonstrate success in working as a member of a team.
 Must have effective and strong communication skills (orally and written).
 Must demonstrate the ability to work well with young children.
 Must be able to supply a yearly certificate of good health.
 Must be willing to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the program.
 Knowledge of Oklahoma Early Learning Guideline standards preferred.
 Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
 Master’s Degree in Education is preferred.
 Previous work experience or student teaching position in daycare or school is
preferred.
Work Environment
 Working hours will be spent in a classroom or daycare center.
 Environment may be noisy and hectic, depending on the number and behavior of
charges.
 Standard 40-hour workweek applies.
 Overtime may be necessary when planning and organizing curriculum or holding
parent conferences.
 Environment may be highly sensitive and stressful.
 Physical activity, such as walking, standing, and lifting, is required on a daily basis.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Management retains the right to revise job functions at any time.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $23,000.00 - $35,500.00 per year

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
