Job Summary
The Athletic Trainer performs general athletic training procedures for athletes and multiple athletic events. This position assists with conditioning and injury prevention programs, provides on-site assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, works closely with team physicians and Sports Medicine Institute staff.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates and assists physicians in completing pre-season physicals for athletic programs.
Provides training and treatment for assigned athletic events during practice and games.
Develops and implements training programs for student athletes related to injury prevention and conditioning.
Evaluates athletic injuries, provides first aid and urgent care, applies protective devices and refers to next level of care.
Assists Sports Medicine Director in promotion of Sports Medicine services to surrounding community. - Provides continuing education programs related to student athlete injuries for coaches, parents and trainers.
Documents training and treatment per student contact. Records and tracks next level of care for all student athlete injuries.
Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with students, parents, peers, physicians, leaders, and administration.
Adapts to change in a positive, professional manner.
Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command. - Cooperates well with peers and supports group decisions.
Consistently uses skilled communication which demonstrates congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for doing the same.
Demonstrates population appropriate competencies for all relevant patient populations.
Orders and inventories supplies and equipment. Ensures supplies and equipment for patient care are readily available and organized in an efficient manner.
Correctly identifies and uses appropriately personal protective equipment. - Seeks information/guidance from others as needed.
Implements appropriate interventions and modalities.
Effectively role models professional behavior. - Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or from an accredited Athletic Training program required
- 2-4 years As athletic trainer preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expertise in providing training and treatment to athletes.
- Ability to monitor injuries and provide consultation to physicians, coaches, parents, and students.
- Skills in making on-site and immediate decisions regarding injuries and return to play.
- Competence in continuing care and urgent care for injured athletes.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with athletes, medical professionals, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of injury prevention techniques and rehabilitation exercises.
- Ability to assess and document athlete injuries and progress.
- Commitment to promoting the Sports Medicine program.
- Proficiency in using therapeutic equipment and techniques.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in emergency situations.
Licenses and Certifications
- AT - Certified Athletic Trainer in state required or
- ATC - Athletic Trainer Cert in state required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support complete within 90 days required
