What will you do as a PMC Cardiology Stress Test Nurse
The Cardiology Stress Test Nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for providing and assuring competent, compassionate nursing care for patients and families seeking cardiac diagnostic stress testing. The nurse is responsible and accountable for the overall nursing care management of this designated group of patients during nuclear stress testing. This includes collaboration with other professional, non-professional and support staff. In addition, she/he provides clinical support to allied staff/departments and collaborates with the physicians, Nursing Supervisor, Office Manager and members of the Patient Care Team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
A day in the life of a PMC Cardiology Stress Test Nurse may include:
- Responsible for the oversight of EKG monitored cardiac stress tests based on approved testing protocols. Monitors patient hemodynamic status during stress testing. Ability to work independently and work under pressure. Actively advocates for a safe patient experience. Assesses for, identifies and responds appropriately to patient care issues.
- Works within scope of license, develop and implement nursing plan of care with patients. Communicate the plan of care to patients as prescribed by the physician. Educates and responds to patient questions and concerns including but not limited to stress testing, lab results, medications, treatment modalities and/or disease processes.
- Reviews patient history and risk stratification for stress testing to determine the appropriate level of supervision. Applies American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guidelines when assessing patients for stress testing. Consults with the cardiologist as risk stratification indicates and when further patient evaluation/intervention is needed.
- Safely and independently directs administration of medications during procedures according to standardized protocols and physician orders. Follows radiation safety policies and procedures.
- Independently recognizes changes in patient condition related to cardiac stress testing and directs interventions based on assessment of patient. Initiates emergency action in response to acute risk situations. Demonstrates the ability to respond appropriately including the ability to implement and direct initial cardiac resuscitative efforts, prepare and administer IV medication, etc.
- Works with the cardiology tech to perform both exercise and pharmacologic stress testing including 12 lead EKG interpretation, arrythmia recognition, as well as recognizes indications for terminating the stress study.
- Maintains documentation in patient’s electronic health record as appropriate for the test and treatment rendered
- Assist other staff in the department with patient care and daily tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina
- Current CPR/BLS Certification or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two year’s experience as an RN in a clinical/ambulatory setting preferred.
- Experience working with an EMR system preferred.
