CMA / CNA (GENERAL SURGERY)

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS :

Accountable to the Clinical Department Manager

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

1. Patient Satisfaction / Responding to Patients

a) Appropriately schedules time off / Limit unscheduled absences.

b) Respond to telephone inquiries relating to department services

c) Return patient calls promptly

d) Provide clean and comfortable environment for patients

e) Perform all duties in a safe, timely, and efficient manner

2. Prepare patients for examinations

a) Greet and arrive the patient

b) Follow patient verification protocol

c) Provide high level of customer service

d) Accurately obtain vitals including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature

e) Accurately obtain patient height, weight, medication list, and allergies

f) Assist with chart prep

• Duties can vary by department. Training, validation, and documentation of competencies by a Registered Nurse or physician is required, prior to delegation of the tasks. Delegation of duties is not permitted until CMA / CNA has satisfactorily completed their 90-day probationary period.

3. Maintain rooms, equipment and supplies

a) Clean rooms and change linens per clinic policy

b) Empty exam rooms of instruments that need to be cleaned secure nurse's station cabinets nightly

c) Dispose of all biohazard material per clinic policy

d) Sterilize and clean equipment and supplies per established protocols

e) Ensure maintenance of equipment is maintained

f) Clean exam room and nurses station counters and chairs per clinic policy

4. Safety : Ensure Patient & Staff Safety

a) Follow OSHA guidelines

b) Follow universal precautions when caring for patients; Use PPE as directed

c) Follow all PSC policies when caring for patients

d) Provide wheelchairs and assist patients with ambulation as needed

e) Ask for assistance when needed for lifting or transfer patients

f) Ability to recognize mistakes and communicate immediately to supervising MD, DO, Clinical Lead and Dept Manager.

5. Proactively Assist in Fiscal Management of Clinic Resources

a) Assist with maintaining established par levels on regularly used supplies

b) Avoid the need to over-night items or pay increased shipping fees for rush orders

c) Notify manager or discuss with peers blocks of time when there are no appointments to maximize down time completing tasks that are difficult to due during a busy clinic

6. Work Collaboratively to Promote Clinic Patient Volume

a) Assist MD's, department manager and marketing with department promotions as needed

b) Look for ways to expand the clinic services and patients. Discuss with department manager as needed.

7. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.

8. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.

9. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.

10. Maintain a professional & cooperative relationship with all colleagues.

11. Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to carry / lift twenty (20) pounds.

Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one hundred (100) pounds.

Requirements : PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

CMA Candidates :

1. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program

2. Current Medical Assisting Certification with no restrictions

3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

4. Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting

5. Use and apply medical terminology appropriately

6. Thorough knowledge of general clinical principles, methodology and measures for outcomes

7. Ability to communicate clearly & effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous & friendly manner at all times

CNA Candidates :

1. Current CNA Certification with no restrictions

2. Current BLS Certification

3. Knowledge of infection control and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting

4. Use and apply medical terminology appropriately

5. Thorough knowledge of general clinical principles, methodology and measures for outcomes

6. Requires ability to stand for up to 8 hours a day, bend, reach, squat, kneel, move, and lift patients and / or equipment up to 50 lbs

7. Ability to communicate clearly & effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous & friendly manner at all times
