What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Manager position at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum?
The Human Resources Manager plays a key role in supporting day-to-day HR functions and daily workflow, with a focus on employee relations, compliance, recruitment, and employee engagement. This role reports directly to the Executive Vice President to ensure all departmental needs are met while successfully overseeing the Human Resources team. The HR Manager will support human resources programs, personnel transactions, and training activities in accordance with approved policies and procedures, ensuring ongoing compliance.
This is a full-time, on-site position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
Employee Relations & Engagement
1. Serve as a point of contact for employee concerns and workplace issues, providing guidance and resolution in line with company policies.
2. Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture through employee engagement initiatives and consistent communication.
3. Conduct regular check-ins with field (outdoor) employees to address concerns and improve morale.
4. Investigate employee issues or conflicts, resolve them effectively, and ensure all employee files are documented accordingly.
Recruitment & Onboarding
1. Ensure all vacancies are filled in a timely manner with qualified candidates.
2. Manage full-cycle recruitment for various roles, including grounds crew, administrative, and support staff.
3. Collaborate with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and create compelling job postings.
4. Conduct interviews, reference checks, and coordinate onboarding and orientation processes.
Compliance & DOL Claims
1. Assist in the administration and response to Department of Labor (DOL) claims, including unemployment and wage-related claims.
2. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including documentation and recordkeeping.
3. Support the implementation of policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
Performance Management & Reviews
1. Coordinate and support the performance review process for grounds and office staff.
2. Work with supervisors to develop and deliver constructive feedback and set employee goals.
3. Track and follow up on performance improvement plans as needed.
HR Administration & Support
1. Maintain accurate employee records, including attendance, disciplinary actions, and performance reviews.
2. Assist with benefits administration, open enrollment, and employee education about available programs.
3. Support special HR projects and initiatives as directed by HR leadership.
Qualifications
1. 6 years of Human Resources experience.
2. Knowledge of employment laws and regulations (e.g., FMLA, ADA, FLSA).
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
4. Experience handling DOL claims, and employee relations matters preferred.
5. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and maintain confidentiality.
6. Experience working with PayChex is a plus but not required.
Work Environment
1. This position involves both office work and frequent interaction with maintenance employees.
2. Occasional walking of grounds and meeting with teams on-site required.
