What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Billing Specialist position at Pioneer Heart Institute?
The Medical Billing Specialist position is responsible for the daily operations of the practice related to billing. This includes, but is not limited to, posting patient payments, taking patient phone calls, resolving insurance issues when they arise, and monitoring A/R. This position will also work as the liaison between Pioneer Heart Institute and the third-party billing company. The Billing Specialist must be highly customer service oriented and be able to communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, staff, and physicians to ensure timely payment of insurance claims as well as patient balances.
Education & Experience:
High school graduate or GED. Strong organizational and communication skills with the flexibility to work on multiple tasks at one time. Minimum three years’ cardiology and vascular clinic and/or hospital billing experience advantageous. Certification in medical billing or coding is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities:
1. Compile and process information of accurate insurance information and completion of records on time.
2. Review and analyze medical records to ensure accurate coding and billing.
3. Verify patient information and insurance coverage for billing purposes.
4. Coordinate with Third Party company so claims can be sent to insurance companies and follow up on outstanding payments.
5. Ensure timely resolution of insurance inquiries.
6. Resolve any billing discrepancies or denials with Third Party billing company.
7. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
8. Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure accurate documentation and coding.
Requirements:
1. Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team within existing processes.
2. Result-oriented, driven to succeed, and a commitment to achieve results.
3. Proven experience as a billing specialist or similar role.
4. Familiarity with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
5. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing processes.
6. Strong communication skills to interact with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients.
7. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
