Position Summary
The Geotechnical and Materials Testing Laboratory Manager leads a team of technicians and performs advanced technical work involving the testing of metals, aggregates, concrete, hot mix asphalt paints, soils, petroleum products, and other materials. This role involves conducting advanced tests, assigning work, and outlining procedures, especially when new materials or tests are introduced. The manager will work with the Quality Assurance manager and the engineer in the development of writing material and testing specifications. Must have or have the ability to obtain a valid Montana driver's license.

- Leadership and Supervision: Lead a team of technicians, assign tasks, outline procedures, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Testing and Analysis: Oversee and perform materials testing according to ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI Standards on various materials, ensuring quality standards and interpreting results.
- Specification and Development: Develop material specifications, advise engineers and technicians, and innovate new testing methods.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with quality standards, review protocols, and conduct audits.
- Collaboration and Communication: Integrate test results into project plans, communicate findings, and provide technical support.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on advancements, implement new techniques, and improve testing efficiency.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain detailed test records, prepare reports, and manage equipment inventory.
- Computer Skills: Applicant must have significant knowledge in word processer and spreadsheet applications and be capable of learning new software applications required by job duties.

Education: Associate's Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Certifications:
Nuclear Density Gauge Certification
American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certifications in concrete and aggregates
Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (WAQTC) certifications in asphalt, aggregate, density and embankment
National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Certifications
Experience: Five years of technical experience in design, technical specifications, materials testing, transportation and highway planning, traffic construction, and/or highway maintenance.
