Summary:
This position requires the flexibility to work 40 hours per week and weekends as required. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Quality, or designee.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position include the ability to perform all requirements of the Quality Technician, but are not limited to:
- Follow all safety requirements.
- Conducts product inspection and testing to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Works with production personnel in maintaining a path of continual improvement in products and services supplied to our customers.
- Conducts inspection and testing as prescribed in the PLP Quality Manual:
- Perform Density, Melt Index/HLMI, and Ash tests on all incoming products.
- Conduct in-process inspections for pipe extrusion a minimum of 2x per shift
- Verify accuracy of silo pack logs. (NGD)
- Verify pipe dimensions on samples submitted for final inspection
- Perform Quick Burst and Ring Tensile, within capabilities of lab equipment.
- Inspect finished product and mark appropriately for identification of acceptance status.
- Generate Quality Notifications in the PLP Intranet
- Maintain good housekeeping in lab and lab areas.
- Oversee all Quality Lab activities to ensure compliance with all PLP, ASTM, AWWA, NSF, Factory Mutual, Customer & Regulatory requirements,
- will fulfill role of Plant ISO QMS Coordinator, achieve ISO Internal Auditor certification, and
- is responsible for ensuring the following activities are completed in a timely manner.
The Supervisor may work with Senior Quality Technicians to ensure these tasks are completed and are included as part of the on-going training for the Senior Quality Technicians.
- Weekly measuring instrument calibrations
- Weekly print character inventory
- Increase learning about various product standards that PLP manufactures
- Resin truck/railcar check in
- Train new Quality Technicians
- Weekly evaluation of QMS dashboard
- Issue MTRs
- Drive 24 hour review/closure of NCRs
- Ensure line validation, annual and semi-annual test requirements are completed
- Ensure preparedness for all 3rd party audits ?? NSF, FM, and customer audits
- Issue daily updates to Quality Hold list and work with Production personnel to clear QC hold promptly
- Maintain plant document control
- Ensure customer complaints are addressed promptly and closed within 30 days
- Coordinate monthly plant meetings to address CPARs
- Coordinate monthly plant meetings to address CIRs
- Communicate daily with VP of Quality, or designee, on status of lab and QMS compliance
- Lead internal QMS audits
- Evaluate equipment and supply needs for the lab and purchase as authorized
- Schedule annual instrument calibrations

Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong math skills
Preferred Experience:
- 1-2 years' experience
- Previous customer service and/or warehouse experience
Requirements:
- Ability to lift 75 pounds
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time in temperature extremes
- Position requires full range of body motion including twisting, bending, reaching, squatting and ability to mount/dismount industrial equipment and vehicles
- Must be able to work Weekends
- Must have reliable transportation to/from work
- Ability to verbally communicate with other employees
- Ability to use hands, arms, and legs to physically handle and transport finished goods
- Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in the English language
- Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions (especially heat)
