Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Shop Manager to oversee operations in our busy shop environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment operation and customer service, with the ability to lead a team effectively. This role requires a hands-on approach to managing daily operations, ensuring safety standards are met, and providing exceptional service to our customers.
Duties
- Manages the repair and maintenance of company and customer owned equipment.
- Lead employees to meet expectations for productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and goal accomplishment.
- Provide guidance and direction to shop staff.
- Determine schedules and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
- Works with equipment vendors to understand the maintenance requirements and capabilities of all equipment.
- Inspect the quality of outside/supplier repairs and /or rebuilds. Assess structural damage and assign needed repairs utilizing the most appropriate method(s).
- Evaluates equipment after repairs, maintenance, or safety checks.
- Handles customer complaints regarding equipment condition or operation.
- Promote safety awareness.
- Responsible for creating, updating, and closing work orders.
- Billing the repair orders to have proper stories, parts, and labor amounts.
- Provide quotes to customers for repairs to obtain approval to complete the work.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
- Maintains a clear line of communication to the General Manager and other staff in the maintenance department.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Inspect and monitor work areas to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures, safety rules and OSHA compliance.
- Assist with service calls for emergency breakdowns.
Requirements
- Class A CDL license is preferred but not required.
- Certified welder is preferred but not required.
- Experience in class 8 tractor truck maintenance with background of hydraulics is a plus.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of class 8 tractor trailer maintenance.
- Proficient in electronic diagnostics Cummins, Paccar, J Pro, Detroit Diagnostic Link, etc.
- Knowledge of DOT compliance, laws, rules, regulations, and safety is helpful.
- Knowledge of retail maintenance billing systems.
- Computer literate. Microsoft, Outlook, and Excel a plus.
- Attention to detail and possess a high level of accuracy.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, customers, vendors, etc.
- Excellent communication skills both internally and with customers.
- Work may require more than 40 hours per week.

Pay: $44,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
