Enforces relevant sections of the Pitkin County code through patrols, responses to complaints, and community engagement. Acts as initial response to citizen or county departmental complaints surrounding ordinance violations. 

  • Receive and respond to citizen complaints and reports from other agencies and departments on alleged violations of County ordinances; interview complainant and witnesses, conduct investigations, and provide recommendations for resolution.

  • Research relevant codes and ordinances, provide enforcement letters, issue continuing contact notifications, and, as required, issue Notice of Violations.

  • Conduct field investigations; inspect properties for violations; issue and post warning notices, notices of violation, corrective notices, orders to comply, and related documentation for code violations; schedule and perform all follow-up functions to gain compliance including letters, inspections, calls, meetings, discussions, and negotiations to ensure compliance with appropriate codes and ordinances.

  • Reviews construction management plans and conducts construction management inspections and enforcement.

  • Participate in development of long-range strategies for all enforcement programs; including parking issues (construction, rights-of-way, Hunter Creek lot, and Buttermilk lot).

  • Coordinate with law enforcement when needed, including for criminal code violations, heated neighbor disputes, and other issues involving potentially high levels of conflict.

  • Educate members of the public on the land use and county codes, including sections on parking, lighting, trash enclosures, and camping on public and private lands.

  • Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

  • Up to 1 year experience in code or building inspection experience.

  • Associates Degree required or Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.

  • State and federal laws and regulations governing work performed.

  • Record keeping and records management rules and standards.

  • Applying governing rules and regulations.

  • Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, under pressure, and in emergency and stressful situations.

  • Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.

  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and other regional agencies.

  • Utilizing standard personal computer software programs and specialized State and County software.

  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment, with frequent visits to construction sites.

Salary : $28 - $48
