What are the responsibilities and job description for the BOILER OPERATOR (Second Shift 12-9) position at Pitman Family Farms?
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the plant superintendent, the Boiler Operator supervises the operation and maintenance of the boiler facilities and is responsible for all operations and maintenance of mechanical and steam systems. Acts as operator on assignment shifts with full responsibility for facilities during that shift.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Operate and perform maintenance on all equipment including mechanical apparatus used to operate a boiler plant.
2. Keep plant equipment clean and in top operating condition, perform required maintenance. Make minor repair and adjustment when necessary, assuming full responsibility for such operations.
3. Required to change out valves.
4. Make various and periodic visual inspections to insure plant is operating at specified performance levels.
5. Discuss with superintendent various operations and procedures that occur during the shift.
6. Will maintain tools and machinery in good condition and use all tools carefully and as instructed.
7. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following the supervisors written or oral instructions.
2. Ability to lift and properly move at least 80 lbs;
3. Ability to read, interpret and analyze boiler measurements.
4. Ability to work well with supervisors.
5. Must understand boiler functions and know how to operate a boiler system.
6. Must know float switches, steam valves and safety valves.
7. Must have plumbing and welding skills.
8. Ability to work safely and report safety hazards.
9. Must have ability to rotate shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduation from high school preferred.
2. Experience in this field preferred.
3. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking of English language.
